[TV] unfortunate change in lineup post-CBS - SoCal

i used to have access to world cup, premier, UEFA and other soccer games on channel 394 before the CBS thing. now, i don't get that channel, there's a USAHD in it's place, and i don't see any similar programming that i can reach. it appears to have been moved out of my selection of lineups.

someone tell me i'm wrong. else, i call shenanigans.

You're wrong.

394 used to be Fox Soccer Channel (note it's Fox, nothing to do with CBS). Fox Soccer Channel has been discontinued and replaced with FXX (which is where all the comedy shows from FX - like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - are airing now).

The reason is because the EPL rights are now owned by NBC and EPL games are thus carried on NBC's channels (404 and 469). The soccer properties that Fox retains will be shown on newly christened Fox Sports 1 (468) and Fox Sports 2 (271).

For some reason, SoCal has not seen the 5 Premier League Extra Time channels for all the matches that were launched by Time Warner Cable in Texas, Hawaii and the Northeast.

thanks for the replies.

i saw that some premier games were on the NBC channel, but i have yet to be able to view a UEFA or world cup game, or any of the aussie games, etc.

"they may be, but i haven't reduced what i'm paying TW each month, but now I can't access them."

I cant figure out what you cant access? The Champions league games were all on FOX this afternoon. Fox sports One and 2.
TW do not control what channels and deals Networks do. They cant reduce peoples bills due to changes outside their control.

Do you have the sports package?

And I really despise that GolTV is not included. I have to shell out extra for the Spanish tier! I don't even understand Spanish!

before the CBS debacle, i had access to old channel 394. on that channel, whatever it was, i could watch UEFA games, premier games, replays, Australian soccer, etc. In english. at some point during the debacle, 394 changed, and access to that lineup is gone. 469 (NBCSP) has some premiership games, and some recap, but no UEFA that I see. And, I don't know what channels FS1 and 2 are on, or if I get them, but if they're 463 and 4, they only get soccer once in a blue moon, and usually a week or two late.

I pay TW for particular content, which is tied to a selection of tiers. It's incumbent on TW to adjust the channels in the tiers so that my access doesn't change when my tier subscription doesn't change. Otherwise, it's a bait and switch - I choose one tier because it carries all the content I want to see, then some black magic happens, TW says "not our fault," and I either lose access to the content or TW charges extra for adding whatever new tier they've created to split off the content I want to watch.

That's BS. We aren't talking about content that isn't available anymore - it's there on at least channel 395, just not accessible to me anymore. I contracted for a particular supply, and TW is failing to deliver, and (through you) is blaming THEIR supplier. That's not how supply contracts work. That's how a la carte works, and I keep hearing that a la carte isn't how the current system is structured.

Just for reference.

You should really be bitching at Fox for changing the channel content. TWC is probably locked in to channel contracts with Fox that agreed to have specific channels on specific tiers.

You'll find pretty much all the video providers in the same boat. Fox Soccer channel is gone.

Really bitching at TWC for not carrying Fox Soccer is like bitching at the local supermarket for not carrying Mars bars

I'd love to have a cable provider that could just sell tiers based on shows but none of them do because the channel owners don't sell their content that way. There isn't a Crime drama tier or reality game show tier or hillbilly reality show tier. If there were I'd pay to not have that crap. Alas, cable providers build tiers based on channels and contracts and are hostage to the content the owner puts on that channel until renegotiation time, wanted or not.

Firstly whatever debacle with CBS you are talking about had nothing to do with Soccer. Fox had the rights to the premier league and the UEFA Champions league. NBC Sports moved in and got the very lucrative Premier league rights. Fox then made a business decision to re-badge Speed and Fox Soccer to generic sports channels. They kept their Champions league stuff and have been showing all those games live. The premier league games are available on NBC sports and in most areas they have added overflow channels so subscribers can see every live game.

Can you post a screen shot of your CONTRACT. Any soccer fan that wants a la carte will end up paying way more than any package rates. Peruse the channel lineups You might find the channels I listed here.

What do you mean you don't know? I gave the the channels numbers for them in the 2nd post in this thread. All you had to do was tune to them to see. Anyway, FS1 (468) is in the same tier as FSC (394) was. And FS2 (271) is in the same tier as Fox Soccer Plus (395). The only difference is FS2 is only carried in SD. So the only thing you're losing access to is the Australian A-League, which is now primarily on FS+ (395), although I think there were A-League games shown on FS+ previously. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches have all been shown on FS1 and FS2, just like they used to be on FSC (394) and FS+ (395).

Oh, and SoCal now has the NBC Extra Time channels so you will be able to see all EPL games again (but they are only shown live, so if you want to watch multiple that are at the time time, you have to record them). They are 744-748 for SD, 749-753 for HD. If you get NBC Sports Network (469), you will get these channels. No extra costs.
