 | [Wireless] WOW Rogers Is Doubling Mobile Data On Smartphones This company never ceases to amaze me with their ridiculous gimmicks. I laughed so hard today my tummy hurted. I was driving here in Toronto and saw a billboard that said "We Now Give You Double The Data!". It was a Rogers billboard ad. It showed the pic of a Z10 or an iPhone (forgot) and the big black bold letters "Now it's 2 Gygabites!" for some $70+ cellphone plan.
WTF?
*Ahem* I get UNLIMITED, yes not 2GB or 6GB but Unlimited data with Wind @ $29.99 a month.
Anyways, the point is that Rogers impresses suckers with 2 GB of data in 2013? Really? |

 | If you pick a premium data, I think they bump you to 10 GB before they slow you down. |

That's still triple the data than what Rogers is proudly advertising. Listen forget my mentioning of Wind, the point is this... is Rogers trying to impress people with a pathetic 2GB as if nobody has ever offered or had this speed before. I might as well impress my friends with a 486 desktop computer. |

Besides, they just want the spectrum, the customers can go f themselves. |

I still have my 6GB plan from last summer, don't plan on ever ditching it since its $60 and a new 6GB plan is now twice that.
And I have found One Number to be quite useful when I'm at home or working at a computer. |

Can't say as I agree and it's better than paying an arm and a leg for data services. |

Wind isn't actually they're still staying above water, they're just less interested in competing head on with the incumbents. Unlike Public and Mobilicity both who are likely going to sell off or liquidate their assets soon. |

| [Wireless] Re: WOW Rogers Is Doubling Mobile Data On Smartphones well my contract is up in the middle of sept... going to wind.... but the fact is that the ad's that the big telecom companies show convince the masses to get the s*itty plans.... can't even talk my parent's, grandparent's and brothers to quit big telecom and go to smaller companies.... project mockingbird .... understand mind control.... that's what television does... except that i get little money so i know that third party isp's and cell phones would be better for me... the expense's i have to pay for storage and internet and cell have to be calculated on top of useless presents for people who have jobs.... |

said by MJB:if everyone was smart they would be on wind Wind is good depending where you live, if you almost never have to use your phone outside their home coverage area. It shouldn't be too hard to calculate your usage patterns and figure out whether Wind would be cheaper or not, for me it would be more expensive than Rogers et al. |

I like LTE and all but with the ridiculous caps and how expensive it is I couldn't care less. It's like having the Ferrari you can barely get out of the driveway. |

Yeah, but how much does one pay for 5GB of service from Rogers? The throttling caps on Wind sucks, but 5GB at $30 is better than 2GB at $70. |
|
TypeS join:2012-12-17 London, ON kudos:1 | I'm not entire sure how much my 6GB costs, it's a grandfathered plan at $60, I I had to guess, I am paying $20 for the 6GB data, or $30 and the other $30 is for voice/text and whatever else. |
|
 | Apparently there is a Corp350 Plan if you're some sort of government employee. It includes 300 minutes I think, and 5 or 6 GB of data for $50. Not a bad deal if you absolutely need a service plan outside of Winds coverage area. |

I switched to Wind after having a pretty much useless smartphone with Rogers for the past 3 years.
Even with data disabled (disabled only after one of the most shocking bills of my life..), my Rogers bill was an average of $45+ every month and I got dinged for INCOMING long distance - so most months my mobile bill was upwards of $60-$70+
I'm in awe everytime I get an incoming long distance call (with Wind) and check my usage and see a $0.00 'charge' beside it. I have the plan that also has unlimited data.. so I can actually picture text, surf the web etc. and actually use my smartphone for what it was meant for.
I really hope Wind is able to compete and stay afloat. We need some competition against these gougers like Rogers and Bell. |

If you were getting charged long distance in these cases that was a billing mistake. When in my local calling area I haven't been charged for incoming long distance in the 15 years I've had a cell phone, with Telus then Bell and now Rogers. If you're outside your local calling area then you will be charged long distance to both make and receive calls. But many plans include Canada-wide long distance now so it isn't as much of an issue. |

| You would think that would be a billing mistake, but I've disputed it with Rogers numerous times before I finally gave up and simply waited for the contract to end.
I was well within the local calling area - the vast majority of the incoming long distance calls I received were when I was at home watching TV between 6 and 10pm.
They told me I didn't have a plan for long distance, despite (when setting the phone/plan up; informing them I need long distance & US texting as part of the plan) -- (only once I disputed the outrageous texting fees on my bill) they told me they DO NOT have any sort of a plan for US texting, which is primarily what the phone was bought for! Once I requested to cancel all 3 of my services while still inside the contact term, they added a $10/mo Canada & US unlimited texting option, but I could not picture text. I don't recall what they said international calling would cost for an add-on, but I didn't end up accepting it.
The plan I had was about $30/mo for 100 'anytime' minutes (which was just for local calls), + $10/mo for unlimited US/Canada texting. $40 for a phone I can text (no pic text!) and 100 minutes for local calls is simply outrageous. I also had call display removed, because they charged $8.75/mo for that. Toward the end of my term I had to re-apply it because, if I didn't know any better, I'd suggest they sold my number to marketers. Weird how my contract was coming to an end and all of a sudden I'm getting marketing calls up the wazoo..
Adding anything else to these puny plans they offer would be ludicrous. It was absolutely pointless owning a smartphone while on Rogers. |

Not only did getting charged for incoming long distance piss me off, but having to pay to check my VM when I'm out my local calling area.
I haven't even left their network, it doesn't cost them a red cent. |

Why should anyone pay for incoming long distance (air time minutes aside?).
When you had your land line and you got a long distance call, did you pay for it? |

Sure it costs them, everything you do on the network costs money. Just because you don't see the big picture doesn't mean it doesn't cost money. |

It's not about the big picture, say I pay $50/month to Rogers all in. That $50 is supposed cover the cost of the plan I chose and includes a profit for Rogers.
Now I can understand that calling a landline or something (via long distance) there are potentially outside cots. But calling into my VM does not occur any costs outside my plan. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |
