[Chicago - Lincoln Park] Slow speeds on 75 Mbps

I just got RCN in my new apartment, and sometimes I'll get around 60-70 Mbps which is close enough to the 75 Mbps that I'm paying for. But most times I seem to be getting 5-10 Mbps. It's 11PM right now and my download is hovering around 500 KB/sec which doesn't cut it. It'll periodically jump up, but not for long.

Heres a speedtest where I got 28Mbps:

And here is my modem page:

Use this tool to test speed: »www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/diffpr···obe.html

Get a few during a 24hr period & post back. Also note what your signal levels are when you get your best speed result & your worst.

Those power levels are completely out of spec when you get 28 Mbps. I can't imagine what they are when you do worse.

Have you eliminated any problems in your apartment. Bad cables, too many splits, RF noise sources, etc.

I ran that test and the downstream measurement was aborted due to high packet loss.

But the coax I'm hooked up to doesn't split, and goes directly into the RCN box on my building, I watched the RCN guy install it.

I've actually been having the same issues. I'm on 75 as well and I'm not getting better than 6-7.

I have an update.

The RCN guy came out and did some re-wiring and now my transmit power is in spec, and the forward power is now out of spec. He told me forward power really didn't matter and transmit was more important.

Regardless, I got 80Mbps and now we seem to be getting much faster speeds! It does dip down to 30 or so periodically but overall it's good enough
