Is Lonesome Dove Full Frame or Widescreen???

I'm watching Lonesome Dove on Blu-ray right now on my Insignia 55" LED LCD 1080p/120Hz. As I watch it It looks as if it was originally filmed in 4x3 Full Frame were they chopped the bottom and the top off to look like 1080p 16x9 Widescreen. Tell me that's not what I am look at right now. That a bad way of releasing Widescreen on the Blu-ray. Hell I hate it when they do this.

Originally filmed 16:9, but originally broadcast 4:3. What version of Blu-ray are you watching. I think the collectors edition has the original, uncut 16:9 footage.

It was filmed and originally released in 4:3, which was standard at it's time of release (for a TV show/movie).

From wiki:
"Lonesome Dove was filmed in a soft matte 1.78:1 (16:9) aspect ratio, allowing it to be cropped from the 4:3 negative."

"Fans of the series have had to put up with a substandard DVD with a full-frame transfer for a number of years now. With this Collector's Edition release, that changes. Here, we have all six hours of Lonesome Dove spread across two discs in its original 1.78:1 aspect ratio. Considering the show is twenty years old now, it looks pretty good."

Here's a page which compares scenes from the originally broadcast 4:3 SD to the originally shot 16:9 HD from the Collectors Edition.

Based on the comparison I'd say it was originally widescreen. The references I checked stated 4:3, as I noted above. Sorry for the confusion.
