 Venom1 join:2011-10-21 Augusta, GA | [MoP] Connected Realms: First Look quote: Connected Realm is a set of two or more standard realms that have been permanently and seamlessly linked. Players on the same Connected Realm will be able to trade, send and receive mail, join the same guilds, access a single Auction House, run the same Raids and Dungeons, and join other adventurers to complete quests. To make Connected Realm feel seamless, players home realms won't be indicated in the game world. In certain places, such as chat, the players' home realms will be displayed next to their name.
So today as I was farming »www.wowhead.com/item=12360 for my »www.wowhead.com/item=19019, i ran into a Warrior flying he opposite direction. I was about to whisper him to ask if he was willing to sell the bars. As he started to fly away the whisper option greyed out. I chased him down and finally was able to chat him up a bit. I noticed while talking to him that his tool tip indicated his name, his guild and rank, and also "Coalesced Realm - Whisperwind." Then I realized his realm was next to his name in the chat pane; Whisperwind.
Since we know that the connected realms could be two or more, I was kind of interested in seeing what realms were actually linked. So here's the first of the realm map.
Ravencrest->Whisperwind.
Anyone else notice what realm their home realm is connected to? -- Blade with whom I have lived, blade with whom I now die; Serve right and justice one last time; Seek one last heart of evil, still one last life of pain; Cut well old friend, and then farewell. |

 | I saw something like that yesterday but didn't think about it. It was on the Isle and I moused over a guy on the way to the ghost ship (Alliance was racing the Horde to get the tag). I thought it was a new way of displying cross realm, but the connected realm makes more sense. I wish I'd looked to see which realm it was. |
|
 | Timeless Isle is cross realm for sure. Cross realm and Connected realms are totally different though. |
|
 | I know, that's why I thought it was cross realm. But I did see 1 person with that new way of designating, so I was wondering if it was connected realm instead.
I wish Blizz would just post the lists of who is connected with whom. |

I think that is xrealm also. I noticed on Tuesday on the Timeless Isle with all the Horde factions.
Blizzard announced the first two realms to be connected last night: »Today's MMO Champion RSS Feed -- Absolution -- 6/6 MSV, 4/6 HoF, 4/4 ToES, 12/12 ToT Pride and Ego -- 6/6 MSV 1/6H, 6/6 HoF, 4/4 ToES, 11/12 ToT |

I'm sure they will, but none have actually been connected yet. |

What is the point of having connected realms? Why don't they just join them and make it one? (In case there are duplicate names?) |

This keeps that from happening along with keeping dead servers alive. -- Team Discovery: Project Hope |

Yeah it essentially boils down to what Badger says.
The issue is there was just too many servers to begin with. Even with 10m players half of the servers were only 50-75% full however publicitiy wise more servers = more popularity. Servers are only really needed as a single server wouldn't be able to cope, in an ideal world I'm sure Blizz would like it to appear like all one big server per region. |
