4G LTE on old Unlimited 3G plan

Has anyone done this? I've still got an old Unlimited 3G plan (from about 6 years ago), and was wondering if I buy a 4G LTE card, could I switch it with my card now and get Unlimited 4G LTE? I'm only paying $48 with discount for Unlimited 3G, and Millenicom would be a bit more.

Right now, I've got a Sierra 250U, but the 4G WiMax does not work, but I think it's more of an issue with the 4G being through Clearwire, and authentication is different. Also, I got the Sierra 250U as a replacement device, and all I had to do to switch cards was call Sprint and tell them the MAC address of the new card. Do the 3G and LTE modems have different MAC addresses?

Yes, I could probably go with the 12GB plan, but I might as well go with Millenicom. 6GB would be pushing it.

Unfortunately Sprint now has stopped ESN swaps without a new plane. Go to their community forum in Phones and devices Sept 2013.

I just went though this, you will be able to keep a 3G/4G WiMax card, but not an LTE device on that plan.

It's not that the "authentication" is any different on WiMax, it's a totally different technology all together. Sprint just bought out Clearwire so they can start using the 2.5GHz spectrum on all of their "Network Vision" upgraded sites, overall this will give them an amazing advantage as far as outdoor capacity/speed on LTE, and 800MHz for rural/long range, and 1900 for "normal" conditions.

Yes, It's looking like I'll have to stick with the 3G. But it's the price you pay for living out in the country. Network Vision has been a good help, I'm getting about 1.8Mbit down, sometimes 2.2, so it isn't too bad! It's good to hear that I can still swap 3G cards, in case mine breaks
