[General] Verizon and Time Warner

The other day, I took my old Verizon phone and a newer one to a Verizon company store to have the newer one provisioned.

The rep handled the provisioning and data transfer without incident. Then he told me Verizon had partnered with TWC to provide special pricing deals, and did I want information on it. I said yes, I'd be interested to see pricing but did not want to make any changes to any of my services.

He asked for my email address and then asked me to sign on a tablet he had to enter information. I thought this was a little strange, so confirmed again that I did not want to order anything or change any services. He again siad that there would be no changes.

Now to the fun part. When I get home, I have an email from Time Warner thanking me for my order for an internet/TV/phone bundle and that someone would be contacting me for a 'professional installation' appointment. It appeared by the email that I was being slammed.

After the smoke cleared and the air was no longer blue with expletives, I called TWC billing and gave them the order number. They said the order number was not in their system. The billing rep also said TWC had nothing to do with Verizon.

I then called Verizon and insisted that they verify that no orders would be placed for any service changes, TWC or Verizon. The rep transferred me to the local store manager, who acceded to my demand to send me an email saying that Verizon can't change TWC services. He had no explanation why I had to sign the Verizon rep's tablet screen, or how an order with TWC for installation was generated. He said it was a 'template' email, whatever that is.

This morning, I receive a call from TWC confirming my desire for additional services from TWC that had been forwarded from an 'authorized dealer' (Verizon).

I told them I did not want any changes to my service, and that they needed to provide me with an emailed or written quote for any proposed deals.

Moral of the story - unless you want to deal with all this crap, don't give them information for TWC or let them talk you into signing anything just to get pricing information.
