 | Pricing info for current customer. My mother is on a fixed income, and has been a Mediacom customer for 6-7 years now. Her income is about to be split in half, and she is doing what's necessary to adapt to the change. DirecTV is offering some nice deals to her right now and it will be much cheaper, and going through them and Frontier together would cost about $90 a month as opposed to the $185 she's paying now for internet and TV through MediaCom.
This isn't a pricing complaint, just wondering what sort of retention plans / offers she can expect when she calls to try and cancel service? |

4 edits | If she needs internet, try to get a new 2 year contract with internet/cable bundle from mediacom first. This may not work unless you've gone a period of time without subscribing to one or the other.
If you can't get a new customer discount... mediacom launch internet is around $45 with the $15 fee added in, plus $5 if you don't have your own modem for a total of $50. Then add in satellite service....
I would get her america's top 120 (dish network) .. $25 a month for the first year, $50 the second year.. then switch to directv and do it all over again... average cost would be in the area of $37.50 a month before taxes.
Total price around $95 per month with taxes. You should not be paying anywhere close to $190 for cable and internet unless she's a real movie buff and has every premium package and even then you'd be better off with directv's "premier" package simply because, in my opinion, dish and direct have better receivers, channel guides, HD selection, and picture quality.
Be careful with extra fees from dish network/directv. They will always throw in premium channels for free hoping people don't notice then 3 months later the bill goes way up. Watch for hidden fees as well. |

Thought I'd share the facts about my in person visit yesterday.
You have to give at least seven days notice only if your canceling all services with Mediacom.
I got quotes for the different internet tiers since I'm dropping tv after 10-3 (two year contract expired) and changing my internet tier. The CSR stated the $15 charge for internet only did not apply in my area (Springfield, MO area).
Launch- didn't ask
Prime 15 down, 1 up, 250 cap, $49.95+ taxes
Prime Plus 30/2/350 $59.95
Ultra 50/5/999+ $99.99
Ultra Plus 105/10/999+ $149.99
Prime Plus seems like the best bang for my buck with a Roku, laptop, desktop, satellite radio, ipod, smartphone and an Xbox all wanting data. If I'm not mistaken the my no contract status allows me to switch my plan from month-to-month with no penalties.
I'll have to see if 350GB is sufficient to feed the hunger of my household devices. |
