1 edit | Going over the Data Guidline Hello there everyone, so as the subject line states. I was curious if anyone has gone over their data guideline after receiving the "you've gone over" warning, and what did c1 do. I ask because up until yesterday, when I got the message across the top of my browser. I had no idea that the 5mb unlimited plan got changed to 300gb data guideline.
Note: According to there AUP if they consider your an Excessive Use User they can "(a) adjust, suspend or terminate Service accounts at any time and without notice; or (b) require the user to upgrade his service level or pay additional fees in accordance with Cable Ones then-current, applicable rates and charges for such Service (data overage fees?); or (c) use any technology to be chosen by Cable One at its sole discretion to slow the users service for purposes of conserving bandwidth."
Has any of these happen to anyone.

 | I went over by 100gb and got the notice in my browser and a email. This was at the end of my billing period. That was all that has happened. |
|
 | I went over 3x apparently lol. 900GB for me. :/
I too received the email. There isn't anything I can really cut down on unless I want to go without. This is what I'm actively using and not really an increase from what I used to use at the 10/1 speed. It's my usual. I'm not really even getting the full 50 down most of the time. My connection seems to be about 10-25 (and I bought a new DOSCIS 3 modem). So them suggesting me to upgrade to a higher speed would seem dumb.
Bottom line, I guess the ball is in their court. I hope they leave us alone. Just keep the networks upgraded and don't worry about bandwidth and the customers will be much happier. There is no point acting as if bandwidth is extremely valuable. C1 is doing fine. |

900gb wow I don't think I could pull that off, unless I download every game on my steam list.
So from the sounds of it all there doing is recommending the people going over to upgrade and not forcing them. That good to know, I can't afford to upgrade to the higher levels.
Also will they do an upgrade to the 50mb plan for people that have the 5mb and 10mb free of charge, or do I have to pay to get upgrade? |

 | I have a weird "hobby". I collect radio shows.
I have a few PC's with timers set to automatically record just about every radio show in existence. Much more so than I could ever listen to honestly. But I like having a huge external drive filled with the worlds best radio at my disposal. I'm speaking of weekend shows like "American Top 40", "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40", to like "Dick Clarks Rock Roll & Remember", and more. Just about every national talk show. Tons and tons of national and top local morning shows on AM/FM. And satellite too. More and more radio shows have created video podcasts or video streaming. I archive those too. It's not live yet but I'm creating a webpage at www.itraderadio.com for my hobby
Then I also work at home online, and my girlfriend works at home in a tech support position where she remotely connects to PC's. Then we have a Roku and a Blu-Ray player that both stream TV. I have a box that lets me stream TV to my tablet and cellphone when I'm away from home.
We also have a zillion devices that connect. Game systems and whatnot.
I guess we're over average users. But I'm not running web servers or doing anything really "wrong". And I've been a customer with about the same data levels with Cable One now for 5+ years. It would be silly for them to complain about it now all of a sudden. But we'll see. |

Do you know if the browser alert is constant, periodic, or only appears one time? I have never gotten the alert so dont know what it looks like or if its easily missed.
Where in the browser does it appear? |
|
 | Theres a close box at the top of the alert. You will get it a lot (I didn't get it on every page) until you close it. |

We hit very close or a little over 300GB lightly watching netflix HD, some crunchyroll, hulu, and some online games...
300GB is still a little low for the new internet generation. |

I was going over my 50Gb cap earlier this year with the addition of a new roommate. Was getting notices as well. I called in and asked about if there was anything they could do. I offered to raise the cap for free. Woo hoo. Good to go. |

Mine was installed this last weekend. I asked the installer a bunch of questions about this specifically.
While I don't remember specific time frames for the actions, (3 months in a row or 3 months in a 12 month period or some other time period) it was go over 1 or 2 times, you receive notification. He said a call, but I imagine it's the browser notification that others here have reported. After the third time you get notification that you will be moved to the next tier automatically (you might be able to call to stop this from happening, but I neglected to ask).
After being at the highest tier (currently 70mbps/500GB guideline) and going over you can look at business class (no guideline), curbing usage, or kicked to the curb.
I asked about business pricing and he quoted between $100-$150. In a review on this site I saw that there is someone claiming a 60mpbs internet only business package for $104/mo, but I have no other data to verify that speed/price is actual.
Hope that helps! |

I wish C1 would upgrade there uplink speeds, 2 is good but more would be nicer. I see other ISPs around the nation offer 5 or more. I emailed them about this and said that having 50/60 and 70Mb package with 2Mb UP isn't really cost effective or worth the upgrade if the UpLink isn't faster than 2Mb for customers. They said they would review this. |

Just went over the 300 the other day. Sitting at 328 gigs now. No notice, yet. |
|
 | What do this alerts look like? I am at 370gigs now and nothing. Maybe not many people on my node? |
|
 | I've been going over since the new plans were announced and I just got the email suggesting alternatives a week or two ago. It takes some time for them. |

I haven't seen one yet, but from what I've read, it sounds like it's a little thing at the top of the browser that has a close or accept button on it. (I imagine like Internet Explorer's "install activeX control" or "download file" notification that drops down from the top)
What I've gathered says that it doesn't appear on every website you visit, but it will keep happening until it's acknowledged.
I'm sure that I'll be over plenty of times and get notification, I'll try to remember to update here when (not if!) it happens. If it's just an email like jasonkradiog says I'll mention that, if it does happen to be a browser notification of some kind I'll get a picture of it and post that. |

I am on the business class 60mbps tier, the $104 price is available when committing to a 3yr contract. No thank you, I do month to month and it cost $130.00. In my area Cableone prioritizes business connections first. I have huge stability problems while on their consumer plans. However, when on the business tier my speeds are very consistent 55mbps 3mbps up. I have a daughter who is home schooled and needs a reliable connection for her online studies. We also average 400GBs per month. |
|
 | Now that you mention the contract, I do remember seeing that as well in the pricing listed for the $104 price point point. Nice to know the cost without it as well.
Business pricing is one thing that Cable One could do with more transparency on their site, trying to find information about business plans is almost impossible without hitting the "call for a quote" brick wall other than 3 offerings that ARE listed.
They may be trying to not scare anyone off by the price by not listing it which usually makes me think "if you have to ask, you can't afford it", in addition, I'm not terribly interested in sitting on the phone for a sales pitch. I'd like to know if there's a price point I'm ok with for what I want before having to sit on the phone. If that's on a site I can usually make a decision on interest in the service faster than they can get through their scripted call opening. |
