[hard drive] Data recovery software for a bad Hard Drive

I have an external 1 T byte Western Digital HD that my computer does not recognise. I suppose the drivers for this HD are corrupt. I pulled the HD out of the case and installed it internally but the computer still does not see it. Using Western Digital diagnostics the HD passes as good, but there are no files shown. As I recall there is around 900 gig's on this HD. What would you suggest for recovering the data from this drive. There are various software packages to do the job which one? This HD holds nothing but music and video files most of which where backed up but I would like to recover what is there.

Thanks

I like R-studio but just remember that sometimes a failing drive has a limited amount of time for data to be recovered successfully... or affordably. I have done a good chunk of recovery but sometimes it turns out better to turn it over to pros like drive savers.

FWIW

Sounds like the urgency that justifies significant capital outlay for professional data recovery labs is not there. In such a case, I suggest taking a look at TestDisk and running it from a livecd, such as SystemRescueCd.

Thanks berserken Testdisk looks good will give it a try. Amazon has a 3 T byte WD Book external for $147 bucks I'll get one to load the contents of this failed drive if I can recover it. I really need to set up with an external RAID system with automatic backups

I've used Partition Table Doctor and EaseUS Data Recovery with good results.
