Email outage

We haven't received and emails since Thursday September 12. A call to WOW says that they are aware of a server outage. I called customer service and was told there was a problem merging networks with Knowology (?)

Can anyone verify this? I'm surprised know one else has posted anything regarding this issue.

We are out also. Same time period. Are you Ohio? Thinking of switching providers...

I'm a Knology user in Florida. When WOW made their upgrade attempt on the 11th to merge us and give service upgrades, we could not connect to the email server for hours. Kept getting connection errors. It did finally clear up here Thursday morning sometime. They posted on their Facebook page they hit a "speedbump" and rolled back the upgrade and will attempt it later.

Seems it is still affecting you guys. I had issues signing in to my Knology/WOW account to pay my bill. Seems man y links are broken.

Re: WOW Email outage

In the Columbus, Ohio area, our WOW email was down for about 3 days. Now my Outlook and iphone emails, previously working great with my wow email account, no longer work. No one at WOW will help me. They tell me to try contacting Microsoft for my Outlook problem and Apple for the iphone problem. My problem is that WOW jacked up my services, without me changing any settings on my end, and now they can't help. I have tried everything and cannot get the email to work again in my Outlook or iphone.

Nope. As of this morning, nothing. To have no email since last Thursday is ridiculous. I'm still surprised more people aren't complaining.

I've started to use my gmail email account for new communications. I just cannot rely upon WOW anymore.

Re: Email outage

Anyone who's having email issues still, please send me a private message with your usernames and account numbers so I can pass this information along to the engineers to investigate.

Re: WOW Email outage

I called WOW customer service yesterday afternoon and asked for an update regarding the email outage. The customer service rep looked at my account and said that my email service was shut down because of someone using my email address for spamming purposes.

I had to reset my password with the customer service rep and then make the necessary changes in my Outlook profile in order to receive my emails. Now everything works fine.

Re: Email outage

My email is down this morning. Using Microsoft Live Mail 2012 to download it. Connection to the server has failed for all my accounts.

server: pop3.mail.wowway.com

It seems they are either doing maintenance or trying to update the system (again) to bring the Knology folks into the WOW fold. My knology email (through Outlook) is working again after being down all morning.

Looks like it is our turn in Lawrence, KS to participate in email problems. Web Mail and Live Mail works, however Outlook logins are being rejected.

This is posted at the knology home page:
»home.knology.net/

"We are performing maintenance on this site. You may be unable to access certain areas
of the website, including email, videos and channel lineups. Thank you for understanding. "

This was posted last week as well before the failed upgrade to combine all into WOW.

Just my 2 cents. I poll (fetchmail) once an hour and saw late-night-only failures:

5 failures in 2013 up to Apr 6
Jul 22, 2AM
Aug 19, 2,3,4AM
Sep 11, 2,3,4AM
Sep 19, 12AM(midnight)

This isn't an acquired account merged in, however. Just the power of logging.

email still down this morning.

come on WOW. I dislike going to the website for my email.

Sarah E

Ours goes up and down. I call, get someone at the "helpless" line to understand what they have to do on their end to reactivate the email accounts. It lasts about a day. And they have turned us off again. Getting tired of the continuous phone calls and the lack of knowledge of the people on the other end who answer the phone. Pathetic when you know more about what they have to do to get it working again then they do...

Just call customer service and tell them that your password needs to be reset. They'll give you a temporary password and then you have to choose a new one. Once the new password is set, you'll have to go into Outlook and update the email account with the new password in order to start receiving emails.

My email went out again last Friday (Sept. 20). I called customer service, got a new password, updated my Outlook password, and everything has been fine since then.

Please send me an email at gussy123(at)wideopenwest.com regarding the email outage. I have had a computer tech working on the computer for a few days now and he is stumped as the other account works just fine (using Office 2010 Outlook Mail). Have talked to WOW for 2 weeks before taking it in and they keep telling me it's not their problem. It won't even let me add a new account without asking for a password and they it doesn't recognize the password. I need some expert advise.

I reset my password over the online account management. Changed it in Windows Live Mail 2012. Still won't let me download it. Connection to the server has failed. pop3.mail.wowway.com.

I got a call from someone at WOW today but I was in a meeting at work so I couldn't answer it. Looks like wow_dan gave WOW customer service my phone number to try and fix this. I'll call them back tomorrow after work.

This is a perfect example of why you should never rely on your ISP for your email account. There are much better alternatives that don't lock you into a provider and allow you to have the same email address no matter where you get your internet access from.

Finally had time just now to call in my email problem.

Guy I talked to said WOW has been having ongoing email problems for awhile now. He checked my account which wasn't locked. Checked each email account also which was good on his end.

He had me log into the web email and then send a test email to myself which I sent and received it through the webpage.

Then he said something that made me wonder .. WTF? He said sometimes staying logged into the email account on the webpage for extended periods of time will lock out my pop3 account. He suggested I log out of all services on the WOW web page.. email... my account.. bill pay... everything. Then try it.

Then he quickly said have a nice day and that was it. He hung up lol.

So not to look like a fool... I tried what he said... thinking it had a 90% chance of NOT working. Logged out of everything on the WOW webpage.

Tried to download my email through Windows Live 2012 and still same issue. LoL

Our problem is email spoofing. It's difficult to find someone at WOW who understands resetting email passwords in order to reactivate the accounts let alone understanding the issue of spoofing. Going to take Dan up on his offer...
