Bring Your Own Cable Box?

Dumb question, perhaps ... but if I have a cable box that has a matching model number to one that WOW implements, am I able to bring my own cable box and avoid the monthly fees normally associated with one?

Thanks!

I don't think so. Only cable box you can have to avoid a monthly fee is something like a TiVo, but that either carries a monthly fee or lifetime subscription

OK, so the only way you can avoid a monthly fee is...to buy a Tivo with the subscription paid up front, and not have a monthly fee.

No "buts" there.

Or use Windows Media Center with a cableCARD tuner.

You'll pay the cableCARD monthly rental, but nothing more.

Pretty sure a TiVo requires a cable card nowadays with digital cable.

Yes, but a cable card is only somewhere around $5.

I pay $3.50 here in the Detroit area for the cc in my Tivo Premiere.

I do have an older non-cc Tivo Series 2 that is connected to a DTA (which is free until Jan 2016 for me), and use that for our older 32" crt in the bedroom.
