Re: Is Millenicom right for me (traveling across US)?

This post is less about mcom, and more about the carriers. As far as mcom goes they do offer an excellent value compared to the industry norms (all over priced imo).

If you *depend* on internet my advise is to always carry devices from 2 competing networks and/or technologies in some cases.

Say you sign up for the verizon mcom plan, grab a pre-paid on the att, or tmobile or sprint network... of course you will want to research the area you are going to be at to find the best pre-paid coverage.

If you go with the sprint mcom plan grab a pre-paid tmobile, att, or verizon.

This way you generally never have an outage for critical work... of course the pre-paid devices are much more expensive per gig of usage, but they also only need to be activated when needed... so they are not a recurring cost.

Happy travels.

tj my sister and BIL have been on the road in their Rv for several years. They have Verizon and I haven't heard her mention any connectivity problems except when they are where there is no coverage of any kind. I don't know how much data they use though. I think that Verizon through Millenicom with their extensive network will do just fine for you.

Where can one purchase the Franklin U770? I can't find it anywhere (ebay, amazon, 3gstore, google shopping)

the 770 is not easy to find, they pop up once in awhile.
Easier to go with a Sierra Tri-Fi hotspot 803S ... see them on eBay all the time: »www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=si···+hotspot

A good price for a Tri-Fi on eBay is under $100 (the manufacturer price is in the 300s the last I looked). Make sure it includes the USB cable and AC adapter.

Fantastic, thanks Jack! Very good to know!

It's looking like the Verizon option might be our best route, and thanks to all you great peeps I know that now!
I was leaning toward going with the 'Unlimited' plan just because it has the higher data transfer, and actually very close to ordering it, and then thought I should seek advice.

Sure glad I did!

If nothing else, going with the Verizon to start and then switching or adding another account if need be will work. I'd rather go for the safer coverage first and foremost!

Thanks again for all the help, it's really appreciated!

Cheers,

tj

I have my AT&T account and my *phone (dunno if using certain word here will get me a slap on the wrist or not) that I have tethered from in the past in 'emergency' situations where WiFi was not available.
I can use that on occasion again, if need be. I did get slapped from them, though, for pushing their limits ... but if memory serves, we were also using it to stream videos too
