Very slow speeds in Gainesville, FL

Very slow speeds in the Gainesville FL area. Specifically off of SW 35TH PL.

This has been occurring since at least August 24 2013. Cox is aware of this problem and is taking for ever to fix it.

Can you please step in CoxTech1?

When I contact 888-269-9693 all they want to do is troubleshoot my modem or send another tech out. However, I have a local telephone number to a person who actually knows what he is talking about and finally responded to me in a way that basically the node my modem is located on is extremely overloaded and that it will be that way for an indefinite amount of time.

This is unacceptable and I need a solution to this problem.

The speeds are horrible.

Paying for Premiere service and I am getting 3 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up if I'm lucky.

Ever since Day 1 with this company it has been nothing but problems.

Split the node already or install another one.

Comcast can move faster than you guys. What gives?

I live off of 13th ST in Gville. Since early August, net drops from 55+ in the early mornings to 1-4mbps at night. I've had three Cox techs come out and note that the problem is in the plant (not my house) but they state that there is nothing that they can do.

I supposedly got an agent to send a tech to look at the plant a week or two ago, but nothing has happened.

I forgot to mention that I have seen at least 1 cox truck (often more) in my neighborhood every day for the last month. (neighborhood of about 20 houses). Clearly, Cox is spending and wasting a lot of money sending techs out for useless visits instead of fixing the plant.

I've been having a problem in NW part of Gainesville for the first time ever. I do speed tests to speedtest.net and I barely get 2.0 down, but still get 14 up. I do tests to Cox speedtest and I get 20 down. So...you are probably getting the double whammy. Crowded node PLUS Cox weirdness for the last few days/weeks.

I used to live off of 35th place, and 13th. If you are in an apartment...look for other internet because it's a constant returning problem.

From today. At the present time. This is unacceptable. Overloaded node. Problem is beginning now because it is a peak time of usage with everyone at home from the University of Florida and work in the Gainesville, FL area.

CoxTech1, where are you!?

I live in a condominium. It is unacceptable. Cox needs to fix this problem.

I don't understand why it takes over a month to resolve it.

Here is the Cox speed test tool:

Exact same problem in Gainesville. Prior to the start of school I was getting 50 mbps downstream all of the time. You probably saw my other post on Cox's forum. Also notice how they don't respond to these complaints.

Something has happened here in Gainesville. I am now testing about 1.5 up and down. All of the channels are now bonding, so I would think its faster, but wow is it slow.

Yeah, it has gotten much worse over the last few nights. Is anyone having any luck getting through to an engineer?

I have similar speed issues. I pay for 18Mbps down / 5Mbps up and I am getting cr*p speeds.

Using the test at »www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I get

Your Speed Result:
Download Speed: 1671 kbps (208.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4988 kbps (623.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
It seems to vary depending on the time of day. Evenings are when it's the absolute worst.

It's been like this for about two weeks. My modem's signal strength is great and my ping times are quite low.

CharlesGNV

@cox.net

Fortunately i have a business account for my home usage and they send a tech out in 4 hours. After testing everything at the apartment they determined the issue was at the node or above. The tech suspected it was an issue with the upgrades they rolled out (the extra bonding). He put in a ticket, but the issue seemed to be fairly widespread...

I get 1/1mbps atm for what its worth. At least its not out entirely. +1 for the business support.

Ok, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. Here I was thinking I have a malfunctioning modem, but the service is great ... at about 4 a.m. From ~noon through the evening though, it's awful. Getting about 3 down, and 4 up.

Hopefully we'll see some results here soon. This is absolutely pathetic. Especially when your internet connection is shared with 4 people...

That's what I noticed when the speed problems began. On my SB 6120, I used to only have one blue light, only one side bonded (but I don't remember which). Now I have both blue lights (rather than green), showing bonding for both download and upload. When I noticed the speed problem, I glanced at the modem, saw the extra blue and freaked...but no one would give me an answer about it.

Just had a tech at my house. He confirmed my signals were good and that I should be getting proper service. He escalated a trouble ticket to have someone come out and check the poles and lines running up to the house. No mention of a backed up node or any other city-wide issues.

Speeds do seem to have improved. I saw a COX vehicle with a cherry picker along SW 35TH PL in Gainesville doing some work in a box. I don't know if what he was doing was related to this issue, but as of this post, here is a speed test:

CharlesGNV

@cox.net

It was a larger problem at a 'plant' that they fixed. It took just about a week to fix :/
