·AT&T DSL Service
| AT&T DSL line issues again Have had extensive issues with my DSL. I live in a rural area with a cluster of 48 houses. Did not get DSL till 2004. The main issue is with quality of line. Speeds ok , the best they can be. Pres. Office had open ticket for over a year and half. Final outcome "this is the best we can do as it will be year 2016 before we can upgrade" speeds ok ping at 30 or below. With that at least I could work from home and sync as needed. Lately huge difference in service since they changed network from ATL to Sugar hill. Ping no lower than 90. Issue is I cannot get a response to change back to previous setting. I have had 3work computers and the final word from work is fix line or I will be terminated as I have to have a dependable Internet connection for my nursing visits. Please any advise that will not take another year to fix. |

Common complaint of RT gamers but very few others.
Even video conferencing 1/10 sec delay is not a biggie. --

Most likely OP has a VPN connection to the office. With the VPN hardware or software, low ping times are critical to the system. One of my former employers had us using hardware VPNs out in the field, and when trying to connect via satellite internet service, it would just refuse to connect. If I remember correctly, ping times longer than 70 would cause issues.
Unfortunately, there is no hardware or software way for you to fix your line, it all rests in the hands of AT&T, in which case, unfortunately, you are screwed.
Rural locations are the lowest priority for them, regardless of population. I live in a rural area, there are 120 condo units in our complex. AT&T refuses to run U-Verse to us, even though they cover all of the surrounding area. They have vrads set up so they can hook up future homes in farm fields, but existing buildings are not eligible.
I wish you luck!!! -- I've discovered that I often visit the state of confusion, and I know my way around pretty well. |

| Thank you for your response. I work remotely via laptop. Have to sync multiple times per day. Was not a problem with ping 30or below. Issue started when they switched me from the ATL to Sugar hill network which results in pings of 90 and above. Well I guess its time to get back on daily calls and work my way back up the AT&T nightmare. I had to resign from a previous Director of Nursing position but will not loose another job due to their negligence. They had my line marked and it stayed as they had promised for over a year. They admitted they had an issue and made an agreement after they were getting pressure from the FCC, ATL government reps and Rural Communication reps. Will update as I go along. Thought it was the change in network. Just wanted to be sure. Thank you again for your advice. |

Get a fractional T1... They can be had, even in very rural areas.
Alternatively, »AT&T Direct ... Post your name, address, account #, and phone number and the request... |
