[Optimum Voice] Optimum Voice Phone loses dial tone

My phone loses it's dial tone about once a week the modem has to be reset. I rather have the agent do it so they don't tell me that we can't do anything because it's not happening now kind of thing. Does anyone else have this problem.

Get a tech out to look at that. Not a normal behavior.

Happens to me as well. From my research and multiple calls for service, it can be a few things (although there isn't a silver bullet):

1) bad line inside your house (especially if you have a "loopback" setup like I have because of my alarm system). From what I can tell, this isn't really a fixable situation unless you redo all the wiring.

2) do you have any splits or connectors on your phone line? You likely do of you have #1 above

3) is your modem near your router? I was told to keep them at least a foot apart.

My modem is below my router. I don't have an alarm system. I'm going to swap it for a new modem this just started to happen.

Phones connect to jacks in the wall or direct into a phone?

The phone is connected to the jack in the wall. It's not connected directly to the modem.

What are your modem stats »192.168.100.1

For troubleshooting purposes it's always better to have a corded phone plugged directly into the jack on modem bypassing any possibly bad wiring in the wall

If your transmit level goes above 54 dB (currently 53 on one channel, 54 on the other), it can cause the modem to swap to single-channel mode and may cause the brief interrupt you experience, unless it doesn't come back on its own, which it sounds like it is the case.

Exactly. To the OP, support should have been able to tell you that when you called in. Try reducing splitters before the modem but most likely there is noise on the return path (plant issue outside of your control) causing your modem to max out and 53,54. Noise on return path frequencies cause the modems to transmit higher to overcome the noise in order for the CMTS in the headend to receive your signal.

Since I got the new Arris modem it's not happening anymore. I'm thinking it was the modem. I was also getting a temporarily unavailable on my tv which is not happening anymore since a got the new Modem. Could these issues be connected?.

No, the modem wouldn't impact anything with TV. He might have addressed something else while swapping the modem.

There's a tech coming to node today there saying it's a signal outside of the home issue.
