[Extension] Beware Add-ons from developer "Wips.com"

Spyware inserted into "BlockSite" add-on.
August 10, 2013
quote:
An old and unmaintained add-on, "BlockSite", has been taken over by
a new developer. The new developer has installed tracking software
to "phone home" and report the user's browsing.

The new developer, wips.com, is in the user tracking business.

There are other "wips.com" add-ons that now need to be checked.

Worse, they offer development tools for building add-ons which build in their
"tracking" features. So there may be Mozilla add-ons with their
tracking code that aren't labelled as being from "wips.com".
Once the tracking code has been identified, all add-ons need to
be checked for it.

Thanks 'chachazz', this is exactly why I read this forum.

I visited the website and noticed the statement "Quick and simple manual how to run any of our extensions in Incognito Mode ".

I also notice the website is in the Czech Republic. I guess if ya can't trust a hoard of anomalous programmers in the Czech Republic gabbing your data who can ya trust?

They are now on my HOSTS page. I wonder what was the 'phone home' address?

I've noted "wips.com" before, The company buys popular extensions for Firefox.

Oh, I know you mention Cz in a lighthearted way, but of course not everything ... as you can't beat, Altap Salamander .
