 | [BC] Bridge Mode for Actiontec V2000 The Telus installer will arrive tomorrow to install Internet 50. We are not getting TV. Will the tech put the Actiontec V2000 into bridge mode for us? Don't want to have to reconfigure the whole network again. Fileserver and backups are working just fine.

| Don't have Telus yet so I can't test. But I am a IT guy who works with Telus connections for clients sometimes. Do a 30/30/30 reset with the phone line unplugged. Log in using leaked passwords (Google is your friend) Now connect Ethernet. Router IP is 192.168.1.254 Configure Bridge mode. Test to make sure it works. Disable TR-69. Unplug Router from power. Plug phone line back in. Pray everything works |
|
 | I found these instructions, I think they may work with the V2000? »telusinternet.blogspot.ca/
Also, what is TR-69?
and
Why is that website asking us to "On your third party router change the default LAN subnet to something outside of the Actiontec's default subnet 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 - 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 should work fine." In bridge mode, we should not have to fiddle with any of our own router's settings right? |

The tech will never do it for you. Whatever works for V1000H works for V2000H. Search for my previous post -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

Mealto,
I recently set this up with my V1000 - Was only able to set bridge mode by using an older firmware (where the posted logins/passwords were still valid), and had to set my second router to a new IP (mentioned above, to something outside of the Actionnet default). Before I changed the IP on it, everything seemed to work fine then the TV started pixelating - started working after I changed it.
From what people have posted here (explaining my issue) you will probably have the same thing even with the 2000 but it is an easy change. |

TR-69 is the system where Telus is able to upgrade the firmware and change root passwords (I believe.) No idea about the LAN subnets. |

Oh yea, with regards to the TR-69, as mentioned by the last guy it is the backdoor into the router that allows TELUS to push through new firmware/config changes. On the V1000 it can be accessed (and disabled) through one of the menus (I think) although I went down the route of d/ling the router's config file, and removing TELUS's user name and password (which was "telusrules" ).
Again, this doesn't really help you much as you are on a v2000 but if you don't close the back door, I believe any custom settings (like bridge mode) that you make on the V2000 can/will be overwritten the next time TELUS pushes through a config change/upgrade. |
|
 | So how does one disable TR-69? Or is there another way to stop Telus updates? I want to do this after getting the unit into bridge mode. Any instructions here would be much appreciated! |

To answer Bowmah8's question - can anyone confirm if the existing (posted admin/tech) passwords still work for the current version of firmware on newly deployed V2000s?
I know for the V1000, TELUS pushed out v.57 which disables all access to bridge mode and TR-69. I was only able to do mine by buying an older router off of ebay (that was still running v.48 where the passwords still worked). |

Unplug phone lines, login with admin and do a factory reset. Login with the root passwords you can find with a google search. Make the necessary changes, plug the phone lines back in. Works for V1000 and V2000 and latest firmware. |

wow, thanks for the heads up. I had better wait on this bridge mode thing until I get some confirmation. Why is it so difficult to get a bridged modem so I don't have to reconfigure the entire network. Fileserver and a few clients are on static IP's for various reasons. These can be set up again along with the current router but having to reconfigure the backup software is going to be a pain. Telus, please give some of your more tech savvy, in fact, please give any of your customers an easy method to get a bridge modem working. |

Rusty Dusty,
Are you sure this works for the V1000? I have been struggling trying to figure this out for the last 4 months. The posted accounts (root, tech, admin) for v48 and v55 of the V1000 work, but do not work for the v57 rom (current). And even if you do a factory reset of the V1000 (running v57) the default admin/admin account works, but it didn't give me access to the menu that had bridging (WAN menu I think), or to disable TR-69.
Again my only workaround was to find an used model with an older ROM. |

Totally appreciate the heads up. Let me speak with the tech when they get here. Hopefully, they have a better solution than trying to hack the V2000H and trying to stop Telus from updating these units. In fact, I want Telus to update my modem. I just want a bridged one! |

I can't wait to see how this plays out for you Bowmah - I am seriously considering upping my TELUS account (still on the 15/1) but I want to make sure all of the work I am doing getting my home network (on my ASUS router) wouldn't get impacted if I would need to upgrade to a v2000. As you mentioned, I don't mind if TELUS upgrades the firmware as long as it could be kept in bridged mode. |

Can you be more specific? I want to make sure I am 100% understanding you correctly.
Just got a call, tech did not make the 2 hour window... |

The replies on here to DMZ and such are spectacular...
Do what has been posted and bridge the Actiontec and get it over with. The root passwords are google searchable. The root password for V31.30L.55 work with the latest still. Only after you do factory reset |

I am in as root. How do we disable Telus updating the unit? |
|
1 edit | Gentleman. I logged in as root.
1. Unplugged both bonded internet lines. 2. Chose Transparent Briding. 3. Disbaled NAT 4. Disabled DHCP 5. Disabled Wireless. 6. Plugged Internet lines back in. 7. Plugged LAN cable from Linksys WAN to Port 4 of Actiontec 2000
Looks like things are working as they should. Will do more testing with remote access.
1. Now, how do we disable Telus from updating the Actiontec 2000?
2. Now, I can no longer connect to 192.168.1.254 even when PC is plugged directly into modem. Sounds like I got bridge mode set up correctly? |

| 1. Try resetting again and try 192.168.1.254/tr69.html Not sure if this will work. Got it from a firmware dump from somewhere. 2. I have a Shaw modem in bridge mode so this might not apply but I can access the modem at a different IP in a different subnet I can see the web interface but it does not login. I have thought of potential exploits in the past in the web interface such as putting a modem in bridge mode just by clicking one link. I might do more testing later. |

I do have a static IP but going to 192.168.1.254 goes to a dead page. Power cycle the modem?
Cold booted the modem. Still no luck logging in to 192.168.1.254. Internet works. Any ideas? |

 | Alright gang. After a few more attempts, I am in at 192.168.1.254. Seems very slow to get in but once it does, I can log in to the Actiontec V2000H again.
I see a way never firmware than any posted on the web.
There is this »192.168.1.254/advancedutilities_tr069.html
ACS_PeriodicInformEnable: * ACS_PeriodicInformInterval: * ACS_PeriodicInformTime: * ACS_BackoffInterval: ACS_ConnectionRequestURL: ACS_ConnectionRequestUsername: * ACS_ConnectionRequestPassword:
The * fields have a value in them. The rest are empty.
1. Is this where I disable Telus from updating the unit?
2. If so, how do I do this? |

I don't think I am going to do that. Anyone else have an idea?
You know, I have been re-reading alot of old posts. With root access, why can't I do this:
run my current router as 192.168.1.1
Hard reset Actiontec V2000H so that DHCP, NAT and non-bridge mode is running again.
Root into Actiontec V2000H and try and set the default IP as 192.1.0.254.
- Kill DHCP - What is NAT? Always thought that was somehow related to DHCP. What is the big issue with double NAT anyways? (edit, just realized that NAT will substitute internal IP with the public Telus IP so ok, let's disable this).
Then I don't need to bridge the modem?
Trying very hard to not have to worry about Telus upgrading the modem automatically.
Anyone have a fix for keeping my current 192.168.1.1 LAN and adding an Actiontec V2000H?
Double NAT is the issue. Is double DHCP the issue? Is .1.1 and .1.1 the issue as well? |
