JedK1 join:2007-03-05 Valley Stream, NY | Go High or Go Low $$$ on Blu-Ray player I have a fairly high end Panasonic Smart TV. The TV has DLNA, NetFlix, Amazon, WiFi... etc.
The TV can play in 3D and while that is kind of a gimmick I find it pretty cool. I am thinking of upgrading my Blu-Ray player to a 3D unit.
I'm thinking I should get the cheapest Blu-Ray player I can find that can do 3D. I don't need a Smart Blu-Ray.
What is the general consensus on this? An LG BP530 is only $129 on Amazon and that DOES have all the Smart features.
Does anybody have a suggestion? Does anybody know o a 3D Blu-Ray that doesn't have NetFlix, Pandora, etc.
There is one argument I can think of for a WiFi Blu-Ray: The updates that get pushed onto the player.
Thanks, JedK |

You want to make sure you're getting a unit that is reliable, doesn't have any glitches, and for which the manufacturer is quick at releasing firmware updates (which are unfortunately necessary with Blu-Ray due to the content protection).
Price is not a good indicator of whether or not the unit suffers from problems. |

 | PS3 has always been highly regarded as a BR player and now with PS4 coming pricing should be coming down |

The 65" Plasma doesn't get video game console because then the kids will want games to play on it, and Plasma TVs burn in really easy. (and does PS3 support 3D). I do already have a Blu-Ray player but it's not 3D.
This is in my "Man Cave" as they say... "Even though I get pushed out when the kids want to watch something on the new big screen" Luckily my wife is not interested.
After I posted this I went on EBay, and the same Blu-Rays that cost $140 on Amazon, are like $80 on EBay. So that may be in my future.

Depends on the quality you are trying to achieve. While any Blu-Ray player can play the disc, there is a difference in video quality. Whether you can see it or even care, is a different issue.
In any case, as noted, read reviews from reputable sources (ie: newegg, Amazon, c/net, etc.). -- Google is your Friend |
