Dude111An Awesome DudePremium join:2003-08-04 USA kudos:11 | Question about Internet Radio Hello dues how are ya??
Im wondering if anyone knows how I might be able to logon to the radio and give it a codec update?? (I dont have codecs for AAC+ v2 in it and I know a simple update WITH THAT CODEC would work)
Grace will not send me any updates,THEY WANT ME TO SPEND ALOT OF $$$$$$$ AND GET A NEWER/DUMBED DOWN RADIO that doesnt work as well and isnt as easy to use!!
ALL THATS NEEDED HERE IS A CODEC UPDATE..... Has anyone ever tried to logon to thier internet radios?? (I know it is assigned an IP when you turn it on cause I can goto the detail section and it shows its IP! (192.x.x.x) I wonder if i could try logging on to that IP??
I think its sick they try to force you to spend $$$$$ to get more........ |

Depending on the hardware (assuming it's like a DVD player for example), the firmware won't affect what it supports. The codecs needed for playback are likely stored on a chip and can't be updated.
Just speculation based on my experience with other hardware. -- Google is your Friend |

  Hmmmm
Im thinking all my other players (WMP,Realplayer,Screamer and VLC) use FILES for codecs...... These radios dont?? (This is a Grace IR-1000)
That might put a damper on trying to update codecs!
Thanx bud! |

| Those software players run on computers. Hardware media players use firmware and often regelate audio decoding to another chip that does what it does and nothing more and with no way to update or to "add more."

Ya I guess it does huh?
I Guess opening the radio and finding the chip and replacing it might be the only route.. (If one were that interested) |

If having the new codec is something essential to you, I would suggest getting away from the all in one device, and going with a "dumb" speaker set. Something with built in bluetooth, then send audio to it from your phone/tablet, a device that CAN be software upgraded at will.
I use one of these: »www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8Z492TTP-···receiver Combined with normal computer speakers. The options that way are nearly limitless. |

Unlikely that this will work as the firmware probably wouldn't recognize the new chip. -- ♬ Dragon of good fortune struggles with the trickster Fox ♬ |

Re: Question about Internet Radio It would be nice to know what make and model you are using though. There were a very few old models that had more or less embedded PC innards that could be upgraded in the codec area if a) the manufacturer did so or b) an enterprising individual cracked it. Not saying this is the case with yours and likely isn't but better to know what you are dealing with than guessing. -- I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources.
