| [Laptop] N53SV-A2 some issues repair or replace? I have an Asus N53SV-A2 that I bought a couple of years ago, it was on sale and I needed a laptop, so I didn't think too much of it at the time.
The battery is going, and it's the first generation one with the bad keyboard, I could replace both for about $105 USD and breathe another year (or two) into it, or I could pull the trigger on a custom Sager/Clevo build from a reputable laptop builder.

Mine is the exact same except I upgraded the RAM to 16GB... I also forgot to mention that I could probably get an SSD for it, but that would up my maintenance to ~$300, and at that point I'd rather pull the trigger on a new machine.
Your thoughts?

 | Its a pretty nice system. If you can get it back up to scratch for $100 I think it is worth doing. |

I'm a little suspicious of the HDD, so I'm going to run a few tests, if it turns out alright I'm going to pull the trigger on the upgrades rather than a new machine. -- Support Bacteria -- It's the Only Culture Some People Have |

 | Even if you have to replace the hard drive it is probably worth doing. If 128GB isn't enough space then another option, rather than getting an ssd, would be to get a 500GB - 1TB hybrid drive, which can be had for $80-120. It won't perform exactly like an ssd but it gives you quite a bit of the benefit of an ssd while getting you the space of a standard hard drive. It would be a good cost effective solution, under the circumstances, and should make the system considerably more responsive. |

| That's true too, I could do that...
My need for storage on this laptop is to store games more than anything else, so if I don't go the hybrid route I could do an SSD and store my Steam install and games on an external USB3 drive. -- Support Bacteria -- It's the Only Culture Some People Have |
