 | Gen 4 I was told by a Hughesnet sales rep. that VoIP service would possibly be needed for home security. That is not the case,I was connected with a Tech, that said he would take that off of the monthly bill, and return my $ 75.00.If that is how it will go I will be satisfied. In a few days I will return with how it all turned out. |

 | Did he try to sell you a used car also? Never listen to a sales rep as they will try to sell you any & everything, for home security to work if you are talking about cameras, you will need a static IP address and Hughes does not offer that on the Gen4, only on the Gen4 business plans. |

Defiantly in agreement with Sharkyyoung on this. Hughes entire system of support & sales just haven't a clue.
They are pushing the daylights out of their new VOIP Cash Cow. Those people will tell you the sun will not set for the rest of the week if it causes them to chalk up a sale.
You need what Hughes calls a Static IP. Unlike the legacy systems, with Gen$4 you will need a Business class plan. Those according to the Hughes "support" website are only available in limited areas. Don't waste your money. |

You need a public IP address from security cameras, it does not have to be static. Although having a static public IP address makes things a lot easier. |

Truly a subject that has been thrashed to near death. In the traditional sense port forwarding is going to be needed.
You will need what Hughes calls a STATIC IP in order to allow the port forwarding needed by most common cameras.
You will find more info in this conversation and its links. »[Networking] Gen4 Remote access
In the past you could pay ($10/month ?) on a legacy 7000 or 9000 system for the ability to do so. Gen4 requires a business class account.
Some discussion on the Hughesnet support site:
port forwarding: »community.myhughesnet.com/hughes···n_ht1000
Security Camera setup on Gen4: »community.myhughesnet.com/hughes···et_gen_4 |

1 recommendation | Well as Gwalk said, so really there is nothing else to talk about here as Hughes is a waste and there are to many suckers out there listening to commercials and not doing thier own investagation on how satellite works and the systems they choose. |
