Blocked IP/MAC because of spamming?

Yesterday, with no warning or messages, my access to DSLR was cut off. Today, with the help of a fellow member, I restored my access, but if my addresses were flagged for any such reason, I was told it wouldn't be long before my new address was flagged.

This happened while I was connected through my router as has been my set up for months, but when directly connected by modem, I was able to access the site.

I also went to »whatismyipaddress.com/ and saw my previous IP on a few blacklist sites. What's up with that?

Am I spamming or otherwise spewing crap I don't know about that the site's filters picked up on and blocked?

I have MBAM and Super Antispyware and run weekly scans. Is there any other software that would come in handy in finding any hidden crap and yanking it out by the roots?

This is by no means definitive, but from some involvment in corporate infosec work I've had some tangental
involvment with :

- reputation of the IP address / subnet is called into question
- action(s) from the IP address / subnet is flagged as suspicious / malicious via IDS / IPS
- IP address / subnet automatically or manually dropped into the bit bucket -- either by accident or deliberate.
- telco flags suspicious traffic patterns and starts "manipulating" it upstream

Could be one of a million different places that you got dropped from for any number of reasons. Problem is
getting SOMEone to actually take a look at it, then figuring out where it broke.

Scan yourself from a remote location to see if you have any ports open that seem suspicious.

Some sites that will scan you include:

Shields up »grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Hacker Watch »www.hackerwatch.org/probe/

Here is an older lifehacker guide to scanning yourself

Good hunting!
