[NFL] SF Fans ask for quieter fans after SF@SEA

Mods,
Feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum if needed.
Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?

This is something that has been all over the news around here after week 2, I would like opinions on this. I personally am of the opinion that crowd noise is something that is normal and to be expected at an NFL game, if you are unable to deal with it then golf may be more your speed. Granted, Seahawks fans may have gone a little overboard in their pursuit of the crowd noise record, however, that does not change the fact that opposing teams and fans should expect noise and CenturyLink Field is a loud place to play.

The letter to the editor writer(s) are crying babies. They need to put on their big boy pants and deal with it. Fans incur enormous cost going to an NFL game and want to help their team. Fans should be able to do anything within the rules of the game and the stadium policies. Making noise cannot and should not be regulated.

Agreed so long as noise is not being amplified, piped in, or is not otherwise in violation of the NFL's noise rule.

Agreed, 100%.

SF should be glad they weren't playing in Philly. Instead of crowd noise, they throw batteries and beer cans at the players.

That would be more unsportsman like than the noise, not to mention grounds for both ejection and arrest.

The letter's authors are crazy, and this is coming from someone who's a Niners fan. We got outplayed for most of the game on Sunday, crowd noise or not. If a visiting team truly is better, then no amount of noise would be able to get in the way of them winning.

The article mentions nothing about the fan who blew the whistle in the crowd that resulted in the blocked punt. I think that is more of a concern than anything. That play should of never happened.

What? I missed most of the first quarter, is that when it happened?
Stuff like that should not be allowed to impact the play on the field.

The crowd was extremely noisy and buried in the noise it sounded like an official's whistle. A couple punt team players relaxed, possibly false starting, and their relaxing looks like it helped the receiving team to get back to the punter and block it. The officials talked about it after the play and probably decided since no official blew the whistle the play stands as played out. I suppose a false start penalty could have been called, which would have given the punt team another play but since it wasn't called in real time I don't think they were going to call it after the discussion. The play was definitely strange.

It makes you wonder what the Refs were doing. A bunch of guys stand up and are like whats going on, you would think they would be quick to blow their own whistle for a false start but they let these guys get bull rushed which could of resulted in injury.

Fans blowing whistles is nothing new. What was new was a couple of idiots falling for it.

Either way, the fan should not have had the whistle as noise makers of any kind are not allowed.

And the fan gets ejected when caught. Come on, fan noise is something a team needs to deal with. This is just a case of being a sore loser.
