| As part of my RIPE experiment, I've been looking at who has v6 enabled. I know the CMTS for all of WA, and OR are enabled but half the RIPE users are still not showing a v6 IP.
means it's (likely) a router or (even more likely) a browser/OS issue. anyone in this area (RIPE host or not) who does not get the Congrats... message on this page please post and we'll try to figure it out. Need all the usual info plus an IPconfig or similar. |

 | Have a question about IPV6 and SB6141 modem. The test gives the results as 10/10 and says I have IPV6 connectivity. My R6200 Netgear router shows both wan and lan with a IPV6 address, but my modem shows IPV4 only as the configuration. I know very little about IPV6 so would appreciate any help on this. Do I or do I not have IPV6 here? Thanks Wayne |

I've got native IPv6 in Capitol Hill, Seattle. This is with a Motorola SB6141 and a Netgear R6200. |

 | dubfan..Thanks for that information. |

2 recommendations | Actually the modem does have a "management" IP address so that Comcast can provision it and see its status over IP (among other things). Most modems don't display the management IP address itself to the user--Motorola ones only hint at what version (v4 or v6) it is, which is what you're seeing.
And the point is, the modem's management IP, including version 4 vs. 6, has nothing to do with the IPs used by your CPE (router), computers, etc. You can have any combination of v4 or v6 modem management IP with v4-only or v6-only or dual-stack connectivity for your stuff.
It does seem like Comcast is moving toward IPv6 for modem management at roughly the same time as they're enabling dual-stack (v4 and v6) for users, but I think these could be done separately in theory. |

dubfan.... Beings you have the exact setup as mine, how do you have your IPV6 setup in the R6200 router? When I have mine set to "Auto detect" it is doing some strange things to my Vizio smart TV both wireless and wired. |

willmo,
Your on the money here.. Some modems support IPv6 CMM, some support CPE, and some support both.. It is all about the firmware support and where it is at..
This is why I tell people if the MIMO says IPv6 then the CMTS is on IPv6 and CPE is enabled, but if the MIMO says IPv4 the CMTS could be IPv6 enabled or not.. -- Comcaster.. Network Engineer with NETO |

Wayne, I set the R6200 to Auto Detect. I had some DNS issues on my PC afterwards. Rebooting the router seemed to help, but I'm not sure if that's what fixed it. My LG TV works fine over wireless, but I don't think it uses IPv6. |

 | Thanks for the reply. What happens when I set mine to "auto Detect" is I can't access Netflix on the smart TV either wired or wireless. When I turn the IPV6 off I have no problem with Netflix. Have toggled it off and on so know the IPV6 is causing the problem. Everything else on the TV works fine, so it's just effecting Netflix. Why? I don't have a clue and it looks like it has Vizio, Netgear and Netflix stumped as I haven't heard anything back from their tech support. Will just leave the IPV6 off and hope the 3 involved parties come up with a solution. Thanks again. Wayne |
