Have you been BLOCKED? Or DELAYED INTENENTIONALLY by VZW? ?
We have run into a situation where VZW is INTENTIONALLY DELAYING our SMS alerts to agencies by 30 minutes. Their response has been... "We consider your messages SPAM, and we are delaying them for 30 minutes. If you would like to PURCHASE (emph. added) a 'short code' for $2,700+ per month we will send your message with out delay."
Several firms (active911, iamresponding, cdapage) which provide this service to public safety agencies have fallen for this extortion racket and their messages go through as quick as my test 1 minute.
Any public safety agencies having similar problems with VZW specifically, but the response was the same from ATT, and or others including TMobileMetro, etc...
Were you able to resolve this and continue to do this yourselves? Force agencies to PAY AN OUTSIDE SERVICE?
We are NOT purchasing a short code, period. TOO COSTLY.
I am not sorry, nor do I feel that these messages are at an abusive level to their systems... and these are PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES, ie: POLICE, FIRE, EMS, not tweenies and their OMG! crap.... We work with nearly 99% VOLUNTEER FD's. They nor our agency can dump $100K/year into SMS short codes etc..
Discussion(s) with VZW (and others) was pretty much the same every time... PAY for SHORT CODE. Got check?

| 1) Yes VZW and ATT are INTENTIONALLY DELAYING these messages at a MIN. 30 minutes, thus making them useless. We have had specific talks with them after irate responders put the blame on us. Messages which come from XX@publicsafteyorg.invalid are delayed by 30 mins. minimum, while if I send it from some place else it is less than 60 seconds. Same will apply to another domain if we change, works for a while till VZW/ATT decide to delay it.
2) We are a PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCY, we operate the dispatching center for the entire county. All 67 municipalities.
3) NO PROFIT is involved unlike active911, cadapge etc... who are just trying to get $$$ from out agencies.
The various users wishing these messages are PAYING VZW for SMS plans, so it is not like VZW is not getting paid, for a service which costs them peanuts, if that.
Can not and will not release name of agency publicly. |
