| [DIRECTV] Receivers obtained from third parties I'm thinking of adding an HD receiver to the fleet and I'm going to order an HD receiver from SolidSignal.com as DirecTV wants a $50 upgrade fee in addition to the $99 receiver fee. It says that because of my payment history but I've paid on time every month and I get combined billing through Verizon landline with my home phone.
Question: will I run into issues activating the receiver. I think you can activate them through the DirecTV website through the My Account page.
I will install the receiver myself. |

| You can get a receiver from solidsignal. Remember it will still be a leased unit (not owned) and it will require a 2yr commitment extension to activate.
Just hook it up and make sure you have a signal (check the levels and the barker channels - 200, 100, etc.) Then just call the 800#. There should be a prompt to push x for activation. I think the online activation is only for units D* ships directly to you.
Just to make sure, do you already have HD? If, so it should be okay. If not you may need a new dish and other equipment. -- Certified Jenius! |

Bell will not activate Dish Network or Telus receivers, but Bell receivers are fine cus bell is your service provider. The good news is you can even purchase them outright and activate them and avoid paying monthly rental fees, just be sure you call bell and give them the S/N first before you purchase it to verify it can be activated and its not a rental. -- Happiness is like peeing your pants...
