RexterYeeHaw join:2002-11-17 cloud 9 | New Mobo for Q8200 processor I have two LGA775 processors lying around. A friend of mine pulled them out of some working machines a while back. I though he could sell the processors on ebay for more than a used desktop might go for. Well, he never got around to it, and he gave them to me. One is a E1400 Celleron dual core the other is a Q8200 Core 2 Quad.
I thought thought the Core 2 Quad might make a good little machine, so I ordered this mobo: »www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WC···F8&psc=1
Well I've got it installed in a case, and all put together, but it won't fire up with a processor in the socket. It comes on for a half a second, and turns back off. I've tried different ram modules, and I've tried it both with, & without a PCI-e graphics card. It does the same thing with either processor. If you leave the processor out it comes on, stays on, but of course that won't do much good! Please, any ideas what might be going on? -- I'm with the Central Government. I'm here to help you. If I start to mount it, as I install each screw, I tried it, some times it turned on, some times it didn't. If I put a screw in, and tried it maybe it would turn on, maybe it wouldn't. If it didn't removing just that screw wouldn't solve it, I had to remove all of them. Very strange! -- I'm with the Central Government. I'm here to help you. So it works properly, you get video display, etc., when it's out of the case?
If so, I'd look at something shorting out the motherboard - a metal standoff on the case that's touching the traces on the bottom of the motherboard or similar. |
|
 | This is definitely my first thought. Its weird but on occasion I've had to use those little paper or rubber washers on both sides of the standoffs to get a board to work right. |

Sometimes, an Oversized standoff will touch a circuit trace on the Motherboard that's very close to the hole... If so, That's where a fiber washer should go. The screw head should still make the grounding contact on the top side of the board.
Also, look carefully for an existing standoff installed where there ISN'T a corresponding screw hole in the Mobo... I've seen that happen on more than one occasion when swapping Motherboards.

Thanks guys. Even when the mobo is out of the case this thing has issues. Randomely freezes up. I picked up a different mobo at Microcenter. It works great. I'm returning this one for refund. -- I'm with the Central Government. I'm here to help you. Now bend over, really, I'm helping you, just, just stay still. You'll feel better in a moment. |
