Re: whos going to down load BBM for their iphone/android?

They claim the issue was that the leaked app was not optimized for the amount of traffic it sends to and from the BBM server. Because it was "order of magnitudes" higher than the real app if it continued to spread and be used they felt it would crash the server and impact people with legit apps. So I guess they felt delaying everything was better than a crappy user experience.

Who knows if the party line is the actual truth? One would think releasing such a major app the day after announcing laying off 40% of your workforce worldwide and a few days before announcing a buyout the company would be poor judgement and a recipe for disaster. Moral must be at an all time low which is going to effect people's efforts into this launch. Who's to say the leaked app wasn't intentional by someone who thinks they are losing their job? (This is pure speculation... I have no idea if this is true).

So one week and still no app. Should I be angry at Blackberry or should I be angry at the people that downloaded and installed the unauthorized version?

Be angry at BlackBerry. They should have implemented a way to block specific versions of the app from connecting to the server right from the start. It was bad planning on their part.

BBM on other platforms was supposed to be SMS 2.0 and they would be a software services company today, instead of being on the verge of closing down.

I'm a huge BlackBerry fan, but I'm blaming them. This was the worst possible way for them to launch.

They should have had a public beta, where at least if something like this happened it would be totally forgivable.

They needed this launch to be flawless. I would think considering the BBM spin off rumours those people would be working like mad to save their jobs.

Heins and the EVP in charge of BBM should pay the price for this. Just like their "just kidding" launch of BBM, BlackBerry's board should do a "just kidding" with their golden parachutes.

I also can't believe it's taking them this long to fix things. Today some sites are announcing that the Beta testers have received an updated version of the app. It has some improvements over the last Beta and is apparently addressing the issues that prevented the release. At this point in the game when they are ready to release they should just press go and announce it at the same time. They can't afford another promised time to come and go.
