Rogers TPIA approved modem list

Vmedia has a revised list of approved modems in Rogers areas:

Motorola SB6120 3 1.0.6.12 image
Motorola SB6121 5 1.0.6.12 image
Motorola SB6141 7.0 1.0.6.12
Motorola SBG6580 1 3.2.1.0-GA-02-249-NOSH image
SMC D3GN-RES 1C 3.1.6.42.5
Thomson/Technicolor DCM475 1.0/2.3.0 STAC.02.16 image
Technicolor DCM475 1.1 STAC.02.16
Technicolor DCM476 2.0 AC.02.50
Technicolor DCM476 2.1 AC.02.50
Technicolor DCW775 1.1 STB5.01.51
That is a hell of a change! And it has been up for a week and nobody noticed?!!?

EDIT: Of course Huawei MT130U (Vi00r001c01B071) is on Rogers list too. I wonder why Vmedia doesn't include it.

Dafuq how'd the SB6141 get on there? OMGz need to find out if we can start using that legally on TSI !!! If Its a GO Imma start hunting me one of them jobbies... not that rCable will make full use of all 8x4 channels.

*I realize also it'll depend on what vendor area the modem models are approved for, there will be obvious differences between vCable, rCable, cCable, sCable ...

--- on the other hand, maybe I oughta wait a wee bit longer and get hopeful for a 24x8 unit eh? We just know they're comming sometime.

The SB6141 and the SBG6580 are some nice new additions to the list.

If the SB6141 has actually been added to the approved list, that'd sure be a welcome change.

I pm'd Rocca about it and it's official, Start has updated their list as well, see »start.ca/services/highspeed/modems.

Seems the black SB6141's are brown box OEM only and the only retail model is the white one.

If that matters, does Motorola give their OEM models the same 1 year warranty?

SB6141 is now on the list. That's great news but I don't need a SB6141 as I already have a 8x4 D3 modem.

Firmware updates will be a problem no matter the modem vendor in question, once rCable stops pushing FW updates - we'll just have to resort to our *normal* methods of obtaining them.

Ofc if rCable wants us to stop doing *that*, they'll have to make FW updates automagic for all ATPIA providers as part of normal network operations - its that simple. (I'd at least would like to believe that.)

I think this comes down to the fact that what is approved for one TPIA provider may not be approved for another provider (unless they pay the testing $$$$)

Under tariffs, if its approved for one, its approved for all.
Chances are VMedia doesn't want to support it.

I'd have to go digging in CRTC rules to see what the official word is, but we all know Rogers doesn't care about CRTC rules around modems anyway....

But, Start updated the list pretty quick, and they didn't fork over $16,000 just because I posted about Vmedia's new list

TekSavvy doesn't have the DCW775 on their list, probably because they don't wan to support it.

You then have to ask the question ... why would ANY TPIA pay to approve a new modem ... they just need to wait for somebody else! This is one SCREWY system!

Sure, that is a huge factor. There is this absurd gaming of the system going on. In addition to the whole "can't somebody else do it" thing, the TPIAs naturally want to keep their annual free modem in reserve, just in case they run into an emergency.

With so many TPIAs, lots and lots of modems could be approved, but it doesn't happen.. Ideally, they'd pool resources, and start getting things rolling. Of course if they did that, Rogers would probably complain about the rules even more

/me reserves spot(s) for newer 24x8 or greater modems Just cause we KNOW they're comming!

On another note, maybe CNOC oughta centralize the modem selection pools and fees for the testing on behalf of TPIA's , no? Or would that "reduce" the number of free per TPIA units per year or something?

Oh Yea. my wedlock child, SB6141, can finally come out of hiding after being registered as a SB6121 for months. No fear of upgrading to 150meg someday.

Both black and white are sold as retail. White is the 'newer' edition (same hardware), only sold as retail and usually comes with a newer firmware. Blacks are mostly cable OEM. (1 yr warranty for all if you have your receipt)

What FW version is your SB6141 running?

Click for full size
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.3-SCM03-NOSH

It was 8x4 since day 1, then recently (after the crazy rogers upgrades) it dropped to 8x3.

haven't had any RF or DHCP issues

Guess it didn't get upgraded with the other SB612x models then?

Guess not, but I believe they use the same firmware. Maybe i'll ask TSI to ask rogers to push the update if i run into problems. (otherwise don't fix what's not broken)

Maybe.. Since you registered it as a SB6121, that MAC address may forever be a SB6121 to Rogers

For sure worth a try, and I'd love to know what happens!

I'm probably not going to change it right now. Down the road, i can say: wait a minute, i didn't wear glasses that day and saw the 4 as 2.

i'm only on the 35/3 and no plan to spend $90 per month on internet

I have the SB6120 on TSI. Good signals at -9 to -5 dBmV (4 ch) and 46 dBmV (3 ch) but the modem will revert to one ch up sometimes. Uploading at 990 kbps does not seem to change.

A reboot from the Config page usually will take it back to 3 ch up for a day or week.

Is this normal for everyone?

Usually when the modem (any model) reverts to 1 upstream channel theres a good chance the cableco is in the area working on the node or at the headend; or someplace in between. This is normal. The CMTS will eventually return you back to the normal 3 bonded upstreams when its renabled. Takes anywheres from an hour or two sometimes longer, depending on how much work they're doing in your area. No worries.
