1 recommendation | [Speed/Latency] Re: Extremely slow dsl speed, no ping to service If your connection was really disconnected you would not be able to access the speed test site.
Most DSL ISPs use PPPoE to manage customers. My guess, without more detail, is there is a problem with the authentication server and your PPPoE session keeps terminating and needs to be reestablished.
This is a public forum not a good idea to post your phone #, I've asked the mods to blank it.
Take a look at the router logs should get a better idea as to what is happening.

In »[speed/latency] very low signal strength your DSL modem was the DLink 2750
Is your dsl modem that you are using still the DLink 2750?
If not the DLink 2750: What is the brand and model of your dsl modem? -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. |

Yes, same modem. DLink 2750B. |

Based upon what I have been told and shared.
To my knowledge, no one has managed to find and report the location of the Transceiver Statistics page on the D-Link modem, so we'll need Verizon to grab the stats from the DSLAM, and while they're at it, check the logs on their end to see if the line is dropping out physucally, or is dropping out on another sense.
I am not saying you can not check the logs (and Transceiver Statistics) in your modem combo. If someone else knows, they should share that info. -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. |

Assuming router is running standard FW check out page 92 in the manual to display DSL stats.

| Sorry about the link not sure what happened. Looks like BBR got confused by the long URL. The PDF I linked to was the generic version. Looks like there is a customized Verizon version. aefstoggaflm was correct, I can't find DSL stats in the manual.
Depending on how technical you are might try to telnet into the router and see if it has a command line interface. I like using a program called PuTTY. Select Telnet and enter the IP address of the router, probably 192.168.1.1. If so poke around and see if you can find DSL stats.
Assuming low level DSL stats are not available try doing a traceroute (tracert in Windows) to stable sites like this one. First hop latency should be in the 20-35 ms range depending on speed and interleave/fastpath. If it is a lot higher indicates either terrible DSL speed or more likely backhaul congestion out of the DSLAM that aggregates many customers. Assuming first hop is OK latency should slowly increase with hop count and distance. Sudden unexplained increase typically indicates congestion at that hop or previously one.
Here is an example of traceroute on my connection. I have DSL through a CLEC not Verizon.

| Typically the router is assigned the lowest address and then each device assigned a sequentially incremented address from the DHCP server. In your case I assume your router is assigned 192.168.1.1 and the first PC 192.168.1.2. second PC 192.168.1.3 etc. Each device on the LAN needs a unique address.
Traceroute looks fine. When you ran it was Internet access slow or working fine? I get about the same latency when I ran it.

Just to be clear - this forum is about users helping each other - it is not connected to or sanctioned by Verizon. In my case I'm not even a Verizon DSL customer. Verizon sold off NH years ago and I've switched to a CLEC for DSL.

 | Thanks. I posted here before and the person who helped me was somehow affiliated with Verizon as he seemed to know what was being done in my case. Are there any Verizon folks here who can help me? Also, what is CLEC? I live in the DC area. |

1 recommendation | Competitive Local Exchange Carrier - they rent copper circuits and collocate equipment in the phone company central office to provide phone and Internet access. In my case doubled speed, got rid of PPPoE, picked up a some additional landlines features, and saved a few bucks in the bargain.
Most states, DC included, are participating in the Federal broadband mapping project. Check to see what your options are as far as Internet access.

said by sdrada: the person who helped me was somehow affiliated with Verizon as he seemed to know what was being done in my case. There are folks who work for the various ISP who post but in general they do it on their own. There is a Verizon direct forum that is monitored by Verizon employees but I get the sense from posts here that they have not been very responsive lately.
Have you followed up with him to resolve your issues?
