Rechargeable batteries may not last as long as none rechargeable, but you do not have to buy one after another each time you run out of them. |
|
 | rechargeable can also typically be recycled whereas non-rechargeable generally aren't. |

For batteries that are in regular heavy use (don't sit idle for long periods), Rechargeables are the way to go...
For Batteries that sit idle for extended periods of time, or have very little demand use (emergency radio, LED flashlight, Remote controls, etc.), Non-rechargeable LITHIUM batteries are My preference... Long Storage life of over 10+ years at a wide temperature range, w/*NO* potential leakage/corrosion issues are a DEFINITE Plus.

Yup, those batteries are impressive. I actually even have some of the old series eneloop batteries from over 6 years ago and 100s of charges laying around and they STILL hold a charge. -- 75/35 FIOS || MSN Msgr: scott001^gmail_com |

Rechargeable, far cheaper in the long run and depending on brand last longer then disposables.
That said, why are rechargeable D cells so rare? Almost everything I find is AA refit shells for D cell compatibility. |

It really depends on the actual use. I currently use NiMH, NiCd and NiZn rechargables, plus plain old alkalines in certain uses where rechargables don't work too well for one reason or another. -- Wacky Races 2012! |

Not necessarily. For a couple years I didn't buy any non-rechargeable AAA or AA, but I recently started using AA/AAA alkalines anew.

You can get real D's in either regular or LSD NiMH. Tenergy is one brand, but there are more on eBay. -- Wacky Races 2012! |

I use both, depending on the application. My luck with AA rechargeables is not good. At the other end I use LIPOs with voltages between 8.2(7.4) and 25.2(22.4) 3.3Ah to 5AH (RC plane motors up to 2.2Hp) |

You have to watch out. Some devices dont work well with rechargables. Regular alkaline bats are 1.5v, while rechargables are usually 1.2v.
I have a wireless keyboard that wont work with rechargables and a WWVB clock that wont sync to WWVB with rechargables. |

1 recommendation | I see eneloop is still 1.2v
If you have devices (my mac mouse springs to mind) that prefer 1.5v, these look like the go:
NiZn is 1.5v, which means stuff that turns itself off too soon or too suddenly with rechargeable can use these instead. And for the price of one eneloop you can buy 8 of these.. (although reading about them, they are definitely not low self discharge). |

OlegPremium join:2003-12-08 Birmingham, AL kudos:2 | I will give those NiZns a try. But how much does the shipping cost for 4 or 8 of those?

I would be cautious over these Ni-Zns, though, the reviews are mixed with bad batteries in the batch. The low self discharge (LSD) AAs they sell from a US warehouse people are happy with at $1.76, But they are 1.2v. »www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor···se_.html |

dollar store batterys (Sunbeam brand) BEST BANG For your bux. 25¢ per battery
or energizer NIMH batteries (old version 2500.mHA ) I have a pair that I been using since 2009
I see a lot of idiots complaining of short life with cameras on amazon BUT maybe they should invest in a camera that actually supports NIMH batteries That is why I got a Nikon since it has FULL support for Alkaline NiMH or NiCad & lithium |

Re: Rechargeable or none rechargeable batteries? I have been on both sides. When I got my first digital camera I started using rechargeables but did not have very good results and they did not last much before needing a recharge. This was caused mostly by using batteries with not enough juice for the job actually. Then I started using alkalines for several years. I bought the large 24 or 36 packs which lasted a long time with my normal use. Then a few years later I got a better camera that ate alkalines faster but still kept using them. Finally a few years after that I went to a 12-day cruise in Europe and faced the dilemma of hauling a large number of AA batteries on an international flight or purchasing AAs in a foreign country (more expensive). So I decided to go back to rechargeables and purchased two sets for each camera but this time bigger capacity. It actually worked out very well because I exchanged each set daily. When I went back to the ship in the evening I switched batteries with the other set and put the set I used that day to charge. I always had a freshly charged set in addition to the one in the camera. The batteries always lasted for the entire day in both cameras. Some days that meant more than 500 pictures in one of the cameras.
That was 2 years ago and still using those batteries which are now showing signs of age and will need replacing soon. Those two years would have meant QUITE a lot of alkalines if I kept using them.
I am also using rechargeables in remote controls, replacing alkalines with rechargeables as they go. They dont last nearly as much as alkalines in that application (months vs years) but recharging them every few months is no big deal. |

I tried the Sunbeam "Super Alkaline" AA batteries in my Canon Powershot SX150 IS in a pinch, they drained faster then any other battery I've ever tried, I was lucky to get 60 constant shots with auto refocus on before they failed, locked focus recording video I only got about 3 mins out of them.
