[HSI] Does Charter budge on Ultra100 service?

I am dropping Charter phone next week. So, we will only have internet through them. The price will be jumping up from $84.99 to $119.99 I asked in chat is that the best they can do. He told me as a "tip" speak to retention. Now I am not going to beg for it or threaten to cancel. I just feel its a tad high? Has anyone got them to budge from full pricing with out bundling any thing? Specifically on the Ultra100 service? I personally don't expect them to budge. Still curious though about others.

@charter.com

I just called up asking to be bumped back down to the 30mbps tier, and without a moment's hesitation they offered me $99.99 for 100mbps internet alone for 12 months. So...just ask and you'll get somewhere.

wow, a 35$ increase for not bundling.. might not be worth the $5 savings to drop charter phone if you're thinking of replacing it with magicjack or w/e

I was lucky, my increase for not bundling on just 30/4 internet was only $5 ($50 to $55)

Well the promo was only until December. Then my internet and phone would be full price. $119.99 internet and $29.99 phone. Which is why I decided to go with Ooma.

No it's not a $35 increase for not bundling. The new pricing( since June 2012 ) for 100 meg is $110 a month if you bundle. So it's a $10 increase for not bundling which is what Charter has always charged.

mine went from $99 per month to $119 after dumping my TV service and going internet only. That is more than $10 for bundling.

Good for you, but standard pricing for 100 meg has been $110 since June 26, 2012. FACT.

Old pricing. $47.99 was the base price for 15 meg which Charter no longer offers.

I don't understand why anyone would want or need the 100mbps with only 5mbps upload.

I will consider the 100mbps when and only when the upload is at least 25mbps, preferably 50mbps.

No, it's not a FACT. I signed up for Charter 100/5 in Jan 2012 and paid $59.99/mo. for a year. As of 1/2013 it went up to $84.99.

Well in Jan 2012 they still had 2 year contracts. You got a discount for the first year and for the 2nd year you are paying regular price for the service as it was when you signed the contract which was $85 a month. Post back here when you get your Jan 2014 bill an let us know what it is.

Cheaper to get two 30/4 accounts @ $59.90/mo for a total of 60 down and 8mbps up. (Assuming you have a load balancing router, could build one out of a old PC, would need 3 gigabit cards in it.)

3 accounts would get one 90mbps / 12mbps $89.85 which I'd much rather have than 100/5. Only multi point downloads/uploads (like torrents) would be able to take advantage of the full speed though unless bonding can be done on the charter side.

Wrong again...FACT. When I signed up it was only for 12 months.

INTERNET FALL 2011 12 MONTH PROMOTION
High Speed Internet Ultra 100 with speeds up to 100 Mbps
Own your own modem
Professional Install

That was a cut/paste from an email I received from Charter on Jan 12, 2012.

And as has been noted here a billion times, pricing VARIES by location. Regardless of the past or any current policy.

So if you are getting a lower than average price, enjoy it. Most of the Charter market does have standardized pricing.

Yep and that's what I go by what the MAJORITY will be paying. I don't keep up on every little market that may have some odd pricing. The fact is if someone went by mackieg4 statement odds are they will be very disappointed when they get a bill for $110. Better to say $110 and be surprised it's actually $85 than the other way around.

Through chat. I was told my price would be $120. I go to the local office to return their phone equipment. I am told it will be $110. I get home and check my services. Ultra $102.99 As I said before. With the phone and internet. I was paying $85 for internet. So, all they did was remove my $18 savings and put it on the internet. Crazy cats how many different quotes you get.
