[Digital TV] Digital local channels

A couple of weeks ago we noticed that the local channels were of bad quality. When I was channel surfing last night there is now a DTV channel 4, channel 4, DTV channel 5, etc. The DTV channels have a clear picture, the non ones have a bad picture. Not a problem when watching live tv. However, when I went to record the Cowboy game it was a horrible picture because my Magnavox MDR 537 HDD/DVR has a digital tuner but isn't receiving the DTV local channels. I noticed when I tuned in one of our tvs this morning because it wasn't receiving the DTV local channels that it had to descramble the digital channels. I can only assume that the local channels are now being scrambled which I don't understand why Suddenlink has started to do this. I have been using the Magnavox MDR 537 since Feb 13 and I recorded tv programs on 4, 5, etc with no loss in quality of picture. Does anyone know how I can descramble the local DTV channels so that I can record them using my Magnavox DVR? I tried Suddenlink chat and they were of no help.

After reading on this site how some channel numbers changed without notice, I rescanned my channels on my DVR. I went to the DTV channels and found my local stations with the number 16.3 for channel 4, 16.4 for 5, etc. At long as I can record the football games and the upcoming tv season, I don't care what number they are given.

Glad you got it fingered out.

They do that pretty much once a year in certain markets.
Here they show 117.1 The Weather channel as unscrambled in all their documentation here but in April it was magically scrambled. No problem since they undersold a package to us.
Still wonder why the 15 dollar cheaper package just to get a cable box. but dad is glad he is saving money now.
Got an idea it's the data mine of what/when he watches and the advertisement on the guide but not for sure. not ready to get a cable card tuner for the pc and find out yet.
