Re: New Plans?? Long Time Consumer Needs Help With Better Plans

said by Jack_in_VA:

Millenicom has the best plans available at this time. The value for cost vs service received is excellent

To be precise, it offers ONE of the best plans available at this time. Yes, the value for cost vs. service received is indeed excellent.

But it is not necessarily THE best, depending on one's needs.

If one does not need more than 50 gigs a month, and if one regularly uses the Internet in an area where the Sprint/Clear WiMax network is not always very reliable, then Millenicom is definitely the best deal, particularly the BYOD plan with its extraordinarily cheap up-front costs.

If one lives in an area where the Sprint/Clear WiMax 4G service is superb, and above-average mobility is not required (meaning the WiMax is superb in all areas where one regularly needs connectivity), then the cheapest service, and therefore the one that gives the best bang for the buck, is that provided by Clear.

And finally, if, like me, one has a need for more than 50 gigs a month, and if, like me, that need is combined with regular and somewhat widespread mobility where WiMax may or may not be strong, then Wireless 'n' WiFi makes a lot of sense.

And, of course, there may very well be other providers which offer the "the best plans available at this time," depending upon a given customer's needs. As a possible f'rinstance, Couldcareles has adduced above the example of a provider whose first letter is A. I have no idea who A is, but for certain customers A may be a perfect fit also. That's the way it is with capitalism. (That's not to say, of course, that wireless Internet customers are currently being served properly or fairly. Quite to the contrary; the current trend toward stingier and stingier data packages with more and more exorbitant prices should rightly be deplored and condemned.)

It is fair to say that what Millenicom, Wireless 'n' WiFi and Clear offer are products which accommodate the needs of specific kinds of consumers. But I think it does a disservice both to them and to the ideals of capitalism to specifically label this or that product as "the best." They are all "the best" to particular kinds of customers and and they all fall very short of that for other kinds of customers; that's market reality, and this site should always be about keeping it real, I think.

Verizon and sprint are directly involved in this, however we are Millenicom consumers, not Verizon/sprint consumers...What you call 'rants' is simple discussion about options and gives Millenicom, or any company really, a general idea of consumer satisfaction...If everyone had your attitude of "its good enough dont rant" we would never had places like Millenicom in the first place! Stop trying to censor discussion just because YOU'RE happy with how things are.

Thank you. We seriously need more people like you to stand up to the bullying, and I appreciate it. Moreover, I've been posting here regularly for almost ten years, I haven't changed my posting habits one iota, and yet it's NEVER been as bad as the last month or so. One of the most valuable aspects of this site is free, open and, most importantly, very informative discussion, so I applaud your willingness to stand up for that value (note that I recommended your post).

As an example of the serious damage done, look at the posting above from Couldcareles. Just a few months ago, the idea that in a forum like this folks would feel they need to censor themselves by using first letter abbreviations (like W instead of Wireless 'n' WiFi), would have been unthinkable, and seriously counter to the spirit on this site which I, and I'm sure others, have treasured over the years. There are plenty of places on the web where one can go if one is

1) looking for cheer-leading for this or that product. Similarly, there are also places one can go if one is looking for
2) negative feedback on this or that product (nothing wrong with that, of course, as it can prove useful if folks know to approach such with a certain caution and the occasional grain of salt).

But this web site has NEVER historically been either 1) or 2). Rather it has been

3), an oasis of objective knowledge, a source of thoughtful analysis, and a place for uncensored discussion of same. One can hope that this web site continues to be a category 3) community, rather than a category 1) or 2).

criggs-

I agree completely with your last 2 posts. I also have seen recently the "love it or leave it" attitudes and bullying escalate, extending even to snotty instant messages sent to me after a recent post of mine.

I've gotten poison pen instant messages as well, and they were even obscene; I reported them to the moderators, as I suggest you might want to do as well. There's a real intimidation campaign going on.
