 | Testing a CenturyLink/Qwest modem I have DSL on order and am looking at a Q1000/z used modem from craigslist. The seller does not have DSL to test the modem but I do have an active service at work. How much of a hassle is it to swap modem just to test it out. |

 | Besides getting permission from your boss or whatever department that handles your internet connection... You would also need to know the account username & password (that is entered in the modem setup screen).
Besides that, it will probably take 5-15 minutes to fully configure the modem so it can be used. |

 | Thanks, sounds easy enough. I'm picking up the modem today so I can test it. |
|
 | You should do a factory reset first then put in your DSL username and password and it should work. If you upgrade to the latest firmware there are some self tests built-in. |

When I placed the order for DSL, I marked "I have my own modem" but I received one yesterday via UPS, a refurb'ed one. Is CL just being nice? Tried calling yesterday but didn't feel like holding for 5 minutes. |

 | Check your bill to make sure you're not getting a modem lease charge. Modem purchases get new ones. Leased modems are often refurbs as are maintenance replacement. |

Interesting, I will have to spend some time today then and give them a call. |
