AndrewW join:2009-03-07 Toronto, ON kudos:1 | [Internet] Bell is now calling to mock me. I wonder if anyone else has had the privilege of getting a call from Bell Canada informing them that their service eligibility had been downgraded and then promptly hanging up on them.
I got a call from Bell earlier today offering me a deal on an internet service. When I told them I would be interested in Fibe 175 the agent said that particular service was unavailable to me. When I asked what was he said the best available was a 5/1 dsl service(which for me means 2/.4 given my distance to the CO). When I commented that I wondered what I had done to upset Bell so much as for them to downgrade my service eligibility, he promptly hung up on me.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed after leaving Bell that their service eligibility has been significantly downgraded. I did a quick check of some of the addresses serviced by the same F2 that services me and found quite a few had been similarly downgraded although most were still eligible for Fibe 50/10. I was also surprised to see how many accounts had left Bell. Bell is now the ISP to a small minority of addresses in my immediate area.
BTW, I should add that I was eligible for Fibe 50/10 this spring while still with Bell on a 25/10 service. After leaving Bell for Rogers I was offered Fibe 175 by one Bell rep but when I followed up was told it was not available to me. |

 | Do you honestly expect anything different from Bell Canada? |

Ha, no it is more like the left hand of Bell doesn't know who's ass the right hand has been shoved up.
They (Bell) will be jacking up prices again come this November so you are better off without Bell. |

1 recommendation | What I neglected to mention was that the guy seemed super-friendly at first asking me what I liked to do on the internet so he can tailor a package for me, leaving the impression that Bell had many options to offer me, only in the end leaving me with Hobson's choice and then immediately hanging up on me seemed really weird. Moreover I still get individually addressed offers from Bell to get their Fibe TV service but not their Fibe internet offering apparently as of now.
As for being better off without Bell, I saved a bunch by switching to Rogers and was pleasantly surprised by their voice service. I had a rough August with Roger's internet service and was considering leaving(not an option now that crappy dsl is the only alternative) except I was away for quite a bit. But this month the service has settled down and is working great. |

 | I love it when they ask questions like that, I always pretend I'm really glad they asked and tell them weird stories like I download A LOT of porn with my mom, etc. |

That is very odd, if you were on 25/10 there's no way you can only get less than that now. Were you on true 25/10? Ie a field based 7330? Or a co based slam? |

You're underestimating Bell! Apparently it has found a way!
As for being on a 7330, nope, none in the area. I was on an oslam(stinger).
Yes, true vdsl with the sagecom modem.
BTW, what happened to Kovy? |

Fibe 175 is only available in areas that have FTTH, since you only qualified for up to 50/10 you're in an FTTN area so the rep that offered you Fibe 175 did not know what they were talking about.
If you were on a Stinger previously all the ports may be in use which is why you can no longer get anything faster than 5/1. -- Opinions expressed are my own, and may or may not reflect those of my employers or any other BCE company or division. |

HUGE loss for this board.
Mike -- I've picked on Cogeco long enough. Who's next? Any volunteers? |

I'm not entirely sure on that one. I stopped to talk to a Bell tech working at my oslam about a month ago and asked him if there was any FTTH in the area and shockingly he said, yes, there were some small pockets of it. Perhaps when the guy came around to the house to offer FTTH, they couldn't get enough customers signed up to make it worthwhile for Bell to fibre up the homes?

Interesting theory but does not stand up to any analysis. If the ports are presently full then why would many potential customers, who are on the same F2 and are not on the service at present, still be eligible for the FibeTV/Fibe 50/10 service? (They are not FibeTV customers at present either) |

rep wouldn't know if all the ports were used or any of that, they qualify customers by address or phone number, you're either in the FTTH footprint or you're not, if you go on bell.ca and put your address in it'll give you all the available plans |

AndrewW join:2009-03-07 Toronto, ON kudos:1 | As for what the Bell reps know or not know, the ones who visited me were surprisingly very well-informed and appeared to be working in conjunction with the call centre in that preceding their visits in both cases I had first received a marketing telephone call from Bell Canada a couple hours earlier.
As for visiting the Bell website to determine what service I qualify for, how do you think I was able to determine what services were available to myself and my neighbours? By divining rod perhaps? |

AndrewW join:2009-03-07 Toronto, ON kudos:1 | Update on my Bell eligibility status. Well it looks like the clogged ports on the stinger have been cleared and I am once again eligible for the Fibe 50/10 service. That was pretty fast. Perhaps now the next time the Bell rep calls he won't hang up on me so quick. |

It's all in the punctuation. Did you mean:
(a) "with my mom, I download A LOT of porn" or
(b) "I download A LOT of (porn with my mom) ?
Careful how you answer, one choice is kind of creepy.

| you can tell them that canada ranks 37th for dl speeds and 58th for ul speeds... even uploading to youtube is impossible with those speeds and costs and usage based billing / 10 / 30 bucks for unlimited... thank you crtc and terrible isp's... btw if internet is your way to make money then you need upload speeds... bell just offers 800kbits and won't upgrade to fttn/ftth in london... and rogers is just expensive as hell for 10mbits and start throttles you for using more than 10gb during peak time... keep in mind that upload will not increase more than 10mbits.... at least for 10 to 40 years when the telecoms are done raping us. teksavvy cost shitloads of money for unlimited 150/10... best bet is with ciktel and their congestion.... just work around it. for me i use more than 400gb a month. |
