[Exede] Found something interesting.

Found a bug that caused the LNFZ to be extended (used it to download 77GB in the 29 hours it ran) What this bug is well I want to keep to myself but I will share that its there and works nice.

Interesting find..

Oh and I am sure they are not going to notice your MAC address downloading 77GB in 29 hours. Even if your meter isn't recording anything, they will notice abnormal, sustained traffic on a beam.

Just like gambling cheats. One always gets too greedy and then gets caught.

I know they noticed and they do record your data usage during the LNFZ its just doesn't count against your allowance I know this because a costumer service rep told me the data usage I used during that time. And I'v also shown that the system can handle 29 hours of continues usage. I'm not really cheating anything just making use of something that was already present.

You do know there is an abuse of service clause in your contract? Whether you think it is cheating or not, I would say that kind of continuous use activity would put you in breach of contract and who knows what they might then do to your account as a result of your actions.

Its not my contract its the one of some other person in my house I just pay the bill. And the usage was technically during the LNFZ. And again I say the system can handle it.

As long as you aren't violating the various policies and are simply using a lot of data during the LNFZ, then you're OK.

Note, while you may not be the contract holder, the contract does contemplate multiple use of the account by computers of family members at a single address. The contract holder agrees that they are responsible for usage of the service by household members.

I understand the policies and since the LNFZ is free reign when it is active then I did nothing wrong since I was technically in the LNFZ for 29 hours.

Based on your post, the usage was not all during the LNFZ (which officially runs between midnight and 5:00am local time)...so sounds to me like this account could be in violation of the Terms of Service based on your actions. Just because you say the system "let you" have unmetered data for 29 hours doesn't justify your actions in the eyes of Viasat.

It did let me and I did nothing wrong just used the"extended" LNFZ to its maximum. This is not the first time Its done it either during the last year its done it 7 times this is just the one time I understand what triggers it. The LNFZ is there for us to use as we please its not really a violation as I'm using it for its intended use and its not my fault the the modem bugged and allowed me those 29 hours is it.

I commend you on finding that loophole: if only you would tell the rest of us ...

Don't begrudge "OldSatUser": some people just can't be happy for others.

If I told you then it would be fixed most likely as employees of Viasat patrol the forum. And I'm not angry at him just telling him how it is.

I am not happy because somebody downloading that much data during primetime hours could be impacting performance for other users on that beam and/or gateway. All we need is a few people ruining the system for everybody else and the next thing that happens is the LNFZ is removed for all users. Hughesnet once had unmetered usage at night too. However, because some people abused that feature, they eliminated it completely with Gen4.

And if I had to guess...this "loophole" is unplugging the modem during the LNFZ and then not plugging it in until several hours after the LNFZ ends. So the modem never receives the signal to start "counting" data again.

OMG ... that works ... thanks for exposing the loophole.
This makes Exede again worthwhile !

I'll only be on Exede for a few more months then I'm out of your hair. And the unplugging thing doesn't not work I'v tried it but that's not it.

Edit: Abusing unmetered access is a bit of a oxymoron. How can I abuse something that's free reign?

Also I regularly download anywhere from 5GB to 30GB a night during the LNFZ.

Such impact is impossible because the Network Management Policy would automatically slow his speed.

I doubt the NOC is monitoring such things because they likely assume the NMP and DAP automatically regulate prolonged use. I downloaded 25 GB at the end of last month during the flatline which ought to look unusual for a Value Pack account. It compensates for the fictional usage and fictional usage spikes Wildblue continues to put on my FAP meter, and the 3 times they FAPed me last Spring using them.

It did after the 20th hour from getting 1.8-2MB/s to getting 500-700KB/s

I wouldn't do this on a regular basis. It seems pretty clear the LNFZ didn't extend itself. It was assisted in some manner. That is all it takes for them to be able to hit you with a ToS violation if they detect it or worse.

Abyss1992

Its not my fault this time but I know how to do it in the future if need be. If they want to hit me with a TOS violation for something their modem did than I will be calling lawyers.

Beware of Exede's billing practices !

Recently they claimed I had violated the ToS and shut off my service.
At the same time they billed for the next month and charged it to my
credit card on file !

... no service and you have to pay for it ...

And of course they block access to the account management website,
so you can't even remove the credit card/bank info.
Only defense to such a practice, is to use a virtual credit card number (offered
by Citibank), then one can cancel the card number to avoid extra charges.

I have never heard of anybody being suspended for violating the Exede ToS. So it sounds like they can and do enforce it. But that probably is the exception, not the rule.

That's odd...
Abyss, thanks for posting this. There's not any known bugs to alter the LNFZ. However, if you ever have any future concerns about this or issues, you can always reach out to our Technical Team to report it by calling 855-463-9333.

Thanks!
