TO BE ADDED TO U-VERSE LINE MONITORING GROUP, PLEASE DO THESE TWO THINGS:

1.) contact skj See Profile

2.) SPECIFY that you want to be added to the U-Verse monitoring group.
* skj See Profile handles several different monitors and it would help if everybody complied. THANKS.

I'd love to, but I haven't managed to get the 589 to respond to pings yet.

I did that, but it didn't work. I currently have it forwarded internally, but I'd rather have the 589 respond directly.

In fact, here's my unanswered post about it from 3 weeks ago.

Sloe, try clicking "Firewall Advanced" if you have such a setting.

I noticed you had speed tests under your monitor, so I went and tried to use the site's speed tests to add some of my own. Neither the Flash nor the Java speed tests will load, however the Flash and Java checks both run just fine.

Oh well, time for bed anyhow.

I use the Java version....you have to give the app "permission" to run, depends on what browser u use....

Chrome. It never even comes up. When I click on the "Verify Java" link above it, I do get the pop-up asking for permission to run. It's like the speed test applet isn't even there.

Stand by while I look at the code....

I was just commenting on the name of the script

Anyhow, the tests "work" in IE, but they are half or less of my actual download speed. No idea what's going on there.

AHA! I knew I had that debugging console around here some where.

Uncaught ReferenceError: microsoft_lawsuit is not defined speedtest?loc=9&premium=:97

Moral of the story? Speed tests don't work in Chrome, for whatever reason.

Good, because I don't want to be ping-able except by DSLReports.

Crap. I tried to set up a filter to block all incoming ICMP Type 0 and other machines on the Internet can still ping me.

filter it to a specific MAC address

Just confirmed that my packet filter config above does absolutely nothing.

More work is needed to figure this out. The NVG589 may be the best router AT&T has ever produced for U-verse, but it's firewall sucks.

For filtering, does "Destination IP Address" mean public WAN IP of NVG589 (not a to-forward-to internal LAN IP address)? Did you try that (RG's public IP)?

If NVG589 still doesn't itself respond to pings with such filter, then whamel See Profile's no-firewall solution, or perhaps an IP-Passthrough device (which does not need, nor benefit from, any such filter) may be sole survivors?

I tried to give this a go... not sure if I did it correctly.
Probably having a senior moment.

I just transferred my old BellSouth-TN line monitor to the U-verse monitor group. My AT&T backup connnection changed from ATM based DSL to U-verse IPDSL several months ago, but I had not net moved my line monitor to the U-verse group; thanks for the reminder.
