 | 2Wire HomePortal 1000SW Password Reset I have the unit listed above and it is the one with no hardware reset button on it; the firmware version is 3.5.1, which means that there is no "reset code" on the unit and Southwestern Bell has long-since ceased to provide the "temporary password" they used to, in order to reset the master password. I've been researching this Forum and many others on the Internet for hours now, and it appears that my only recourse is to get a password "cracker" and hope for the best, but the problem is that I have to have an exact IP address to put in which will take the cracker directly to the password entry box (a "friendly" alpha address won't do). The closest I've been able to come is "172.16.0.1" which gets me to the screen right before the password box (/portal/password.html will get me there but that's alpha so it won't work). So, if anybody happens to know where I can find the exact numeric IP address that will take me to the password box (so I can put it in the cracker program) it would be appreciated. It's got to be listed somewhere or some router Whiz Kid out there probably just knows it. Of course, if anybody has a better and /or easier solution, then that would be welcome also, but so far all of the ones seem to be directed to the later model (higher firmware) units which have alternate means of resetting the passwords. The business of setting a fixed IP address on the computer which is in the same subnet as the router does nothing other than get you into the Setup program, which is not the problem, because that still does not bypass the password. Thanks. |

1 recommendation | Well, I finally cracked the password & was able to update the firmware to the latest version, 3.5.15, but this still didn't provide a "doomsday scenario" way to reset the thing to it's defaults if you forget the master password, like it should have. You would think 2Wire would have seen the error of their ways when they did the new update, but they didn't, to the detriment of their customers. If anybody is interested just follow the link, click on the "Archive" tab on the top right & scroll down the page until you come to the 2Wire section. Note that there are 2 models of this modem, so be sure you download the firmware specific to your particular "RG" (Residential Gateway) - the poop sheet will tell you how to identify which one you have. Hope this helps somebody along the way... »www.fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net/ |
