 | MJ "Review Department" and no service and no cheer. I paid 6 years in 2008. In June 2012 when I plugged in my MJ, all my contacts were gone, my International Calling credit was gone, my Phone Number was gone and in its place, something like *010065873* and of course, NO dial tone. Since that time every month or so I chat with Mombai tek support and am ASSURED that my case is under REVIEW and I should hear shortly... well, a year and a half later, I haven't heard. I have called Billing (561-594-9925) asking for a refund or at least credit for when I am not getting service but they say that I paid so long ago that it isn't possible to give a credit or a refund?????? So then I call Tech (561-594-9787) and ask them to remove my *0100766437* and put my number back up, but they say that the Review Department is still working on my case and will notify me any day now..... I called YMAX, the parent company (561-586-3380) but they just send me to Chat with Mombai and nothing happens... you need a code to enter. They have a phone at Corporate (561-594-2140) but no answer and they show a Voicemail number as (561-722-0433) but then they never call back or notify you. Their corporate offices are located at 5700 Georgia Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405 but I guarantee you, they won't open the door nor answer. I have read on other forums where folks want to organize a Class Action Suit but nothing comes of it and I am sure that MJ KNOWS that it may not ever happen, so they continue to abuse their customers. And the killer is the "Terms of Service, which partially says, 'Modification magicJack, LP and/or magicJack VocalTec, Ltd. reserve the right to modify or discontinue the magicJack and/or magicJack Plus device, magicJack APP and Software, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice to you. YMax reserves the right to modify or discontinue its services, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice to you. We will not be liable to you or anyone else in the event that we exercise our right to modify or discontinue the magicJack and/or magicJack Plus device, magicJack APP or Software and/or YMax' So you can see that they have covered their posterior well. I guess that is why they delay until your paid service runs out then they will say, Hey, you aren't paid so what are you complaining about? They keep saying that my case is in the Review Department... I have tried to locate a "review department" or even the name of ANYONE that works in that department and they say, "I dunno" so I doubt its existence. Maybe someday someone will go bezerk and get it straightened out.
So, before you plunk down your money for MagicJack anything, do a search on the internet to see if ANYONE loves them. |

 | Well Pensioner, I LIVE in CR and most of my MJ calls were plagued with noise and when Google Voice appeared, much less bandwidth and crystal clear sound. And just recently, GoogleVoice started charging 1¢/minute for calls from CR to USA/Canada, previously free. I am not looking for a refund from MJ, just a credit for the time I have been "Under Review" and I want a phone number and will put up with the noisy line and would have an alternative to Google Voice... with the credit I would have nearly 3 more years with MJ! Imagine! Otherwise, my wheel runs off in April 2014. But it is sad to see the thousands of postings on different sites lamenting the poor service of MJ while they hide out in the hills of Israel and duck law suits in the USA. Their attitude reeks of "Screw You, Sucker!" and that would annoy even the most tolerant sycophant. Er... anyone have a phone number for the Review Department? Even if it is in Israel, I could call on Google Voice. |

Are you calling more a lot of different numbers within a twenty-four-hour time frame? In other words, do you spend more time on the phone than off the phone talking from CR to the US? There may be some caller profiling system that ranks magicJack users according to how much they use the device and decides they're abusing the system.  | No Greenman, I was rarely using MJ and I am not a phone nut and doubt if my calls lasted more than 10-15 minutes. When I lost my number (being Under Review... still), they also took my Contacts List and my Call History as well as my International Credit Deposit and it happened so suddenly I had no chance to back them up. Now I use Google Voice from CR to US and PAY 1¢/minute and the required $10 deposit last for months... at least 1,000 minutes... now why couldn't MJ do something like that and has customers instead of enemies? |

 | BBB is a group that gets paid by MJ for "belonging" and altho the BBB reports that 1213 complaints were "resolved" in the last 12 months, they don't mention the possible 500,000 complaints received as I can affirm that MY complaint(s) have not been attended nor resolved... and I am not alone. BBB and similar groups are mere "Firewalls" so that the involved industry can sort out just "where" to apply the grease and let the rest pass... isn't it all about "image"? and that is what BBB and similar are preserving. The BBB has no "authority", just publishing tweaked numbers and leaving out the rest. Bottom line: It is MJ that has to resolve their (our?) problems and the informed consumer must be just that.... informed... and not presume that BBB will call Israel and complain.... more likely to inform that some rabble rousing angry customer is putting up Letters to the Editor and may need some "grease". If interested, you can read the 694 pages of complaints at about 5 complaints per page... and those are just the ones the BBB lists. I think I will make another complaint..... |

BBB does seem to be at odds with its own mission. There are as many businesses that hate BBB as there are that actually abide by it. Many businesses that have very good local community standing, but are not members of BBB find themselves with really crummy BBB ratings. When customers go to BBB to find out the business's rating, all they see is the crummy rating. And the only way for a business to remove the crummy rating is to in essence buy an A rating from BBB.  | Looked over the BBB site and decided (with prodding from greenman) to file a complaint! They explain that the merchant has 30 days to respond and if no response, write BBB again. Would you believe it? I had a response from MJ THE NEXT DAY! But the information was disheartening... they said that my account "was flagged for suspicious activity"!!!! The first I ever heard of that... they previously said that it was because I let 90 days go by without making a call and jerked my assigned number of 4 years duration and suspended my account and sent it for "Review". Anyway, MJ said that, among other things, that my "subscription" was still valid and my "License" was still valid and I had full use of MJ altho my account was "flagged" and I could not order anything... which sounds like some Boenher retoric. They said I had a special "free magicNumber" referring to that *010053475* that just ain't dialable but my order for a new "real" phone number would not be processed.... they want to say that my subscription time is still running as if I could just plug in and make a call but at the same time saying my account has been "flagged" and WAS under Review but in their response, said that the Review was over and my account was UNflagged (no wonder they call it MAGIC!!!) and that I could order a new number and if it didn't install, to email to ConsumerIssuesDept@magicJack.com with the corresponding BBB case number and that they would assist me with placing a "new order" whatever that means. So in the part where they ask if I accept their proferred resolution, I clicked NO as I also want credit for the 16+ months that they have had me twisting in the wind. After all, I paid 6 years up front and they think it is all their money! So, will write a follow up when I have the Final Resolution. But meanwhile, I would suggest to anyone thinking that MJ has screwed them around to complain thru the BBB in West Palm Beach... apparently MJ is listening! |
