[Network] Grandfathered Internet accounts (BEWHARE)
Okay so I'm visiting my surrogate family (Friends that have become like family to me since the death of one of my own family members Anyway the wife is questioning me about slow Internet so I go over to check their speed test (There on a grandfathered 10 Mb plan from Iowa Telecom) and discover that the speed is very very erratic, I look at the modem and realizing SNR is between 7 and 9. I look at the sync rate and realize that they had been turned up to the 12 Mb option which do to distance is not feasible for them. They have had two different technicians out verify this that they are at the extreme edge for 12 but it's not stable What I want to know is why is Windstream messing around with grandfathered accounts when things were working okay before but no they are going to go down to the 6 Mb because the 10 Mb grandfathered isn't available anymore This is just a heads up to anybody else that might have a grandfathered Internet account with a prior company before Winnstream bought them out
At least Iowa Telecom fixed things when they were broke. Can't say that now with Windstream. Even when they know what the problem is and can be fixed by replacing some bundled wire.
well I guess they had to apply for funding to fix the buried cable that runs between pedestals (800 feet) and from what I can find out that is the lowest thing that will get fixed. Noise on the phone (2 lines) can't carry on a conversation without the noise taking over and blocking any conversation. Been reported and still not going to be fixed as it involves replacing the cable. Neighbor across the street is getting 3 Mbps download and crystal clear phone, My neighbor 750 feet before me has bad phone also and just uses his cell phones instead and I get 1023 kbps sometimes download with modem reboot at least 12 times a day. I would almost pay the cancelation fee if I could get something else that is wired. But it all stops just before the 34 bypass.
I want to add though. The field tech that had been working on my line went so far as to start at the central office and worked the lines out to within 1500 feet of me and was able to get clear voice and 3 Mbps download of internet. She also was able to eliminate about 1000 feet out of the line to me. So I do have to say to her a big thank you. It is not the field techs fault when they are trying to provide what we pay for.
