 | [IL] Poor, poor mbps in Harrisburg IL I'm at my wits end here. I've had Mediacom cable and internet here in Harrisburg, IL since the first of the year (relocated here from another state). For the first few months, the service worked really well.
For the past month or so, the Internet has been so slow (even during the daytime) that it's almost unusable (I just did a speedtest.net test at 10:30 at night and I got 0.78 mpbs -- paying for 20 mpbs).
Also, my HD channels sometime break up so much that I have to switch to the non-HD channel to watch a show.
Some days I'll run a speedtest and get 40-50 mpbs! But that's a rarity -- it's normally slow as all get out.
Anyone else in the Harrisburg area seeing this same type of thing?

I show that your modem currently is online with all signals in range and utilization does not seem to be a factor in your area at all. If you could please bypass your wireless router and connect a PC directly to your modem. Let me know when this is completed and we can run some additional tests. |
 | thanks! And, welcome to my nightmare Here's what I did:
1. I wired directly into my Linksys router, ran SpeedTest, and got 0.83 mbps 2. I unplugged my cable modem so I could get to it, plugged my MacBook directly into it, ran SpeedTest and got 49 mbps. 3. I unplugged the cable modem again and hooked it back up to the router, wired directly into the router, ran Speedtest, and got 48 mbps. 4. I unplugged my MacBook Pro, went wireless, ran Speedtest, got 48 mpbs. Argh!
It looks like whatever is going on, unplugging the cable modem fixed it for the time being. That's a shame -- wish I wouldn't have had to do that. But, I can tell you that in the past month, I've unplugged /replugged the cable modem about 100 times to see if it would improve the poor response. Some times it did for a little while, most times it made no difference at all.
Any thoughts?

Sometimes a bad connection exists between the modem and router. So power cycling the modem may not fix the issue. But in this instance you bypassed the router and reconnected it forcing a new bond between the two devices. If anything else comes up, just let me know. |
