DKSDamn Kidney StonesPremium,ExMod 2002 join:2001-03-22 Owen Sound, ON kudos:2 | [Homephone] Bell Service Superb I got home from work around 2:00 PM to discover no dial tone on the phones but DSL working. I called 310-Bell and told them the problem. I asked for the first appointment tomorrow, which was available. At 2:45 the doorbell rang. It was a Bell technician. He had checked the line at every point from the CO already and found no fault. He came in and worked from the internal NID back. He suggested that there was definitely a ground fault there, but couldn't isolate it. So he cleaned up the installation and installed a POTS splitter, taking out the NID (which was just an extension box, anyway). Installation is all cleaned up. Ground fault is gone. DSL modem line is isolated to the splitter. He was gone by 3:15. Total ET: 75 minutes. Cost: Zero. Fully covered by Wire Care. Nicely done. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

| Glad that the tech was able to get you all sorted out.
Just to clarify you had 2 NIDs, one outside and one inside? If that's the case it's quite possible the internal was causing the ground on the line. -- Opinions expressed are my own, and may or may not reflect those of my employers or any other BCE company or division. |

No. One NID inside. There is not enough cable to run an outside NID. the NID was replaced with a POTS splitter. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

Not really. I do have Homephone, internet and Bell TV. And this is a small city. An easy afternoon on a nice fall day and a simple call. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

| And in days gone by, you wouldn't have had to have wirecare, and you'd have had a tech that evening and paying a whole lot less.
The probable fault if that was an old NID was that the carbon lightning arrestor had a cardiac arrest and shorted to ground. |

I'll say this about my years with Bell telephone and internet: once you got to the techs, either on the phone or at the house, it was without fail a positive experience. I always found them to be a great group to deal with. It was the business office side that finally drove me away. Bless the techies but the business side can foad. |

I agree. Bell has finally got their act together even with TPIAs. I am with Teksavvy and last month my 15M/1 download speed suddenly went down to 25kB/s. Teksavvy notified me that they just opened a ticket with Bell and it could take up to 48 hrs before they respond. Few hours later (the same day), Bell tech showed up at my house and he told me that he had already been working remotely on my problem as soon the ticket was submitted by Teksavvy. To make a long story short, before my problem was fixed, another ticket was submitted by Teksavvy. Again, Bell worked remotely on my problem within couple of hours. I know this because my download speed went back to normal within few hours. Bell tech showed up the following day ( as scheduled) to work on another minor problem with my SN margin. So, Bell gets grade: A for the fast action and Teksavvy gets grade B- for taking several days to submit the second ticket. |

Never had an issue with any of Bell's techs, they know what they are doing.
It would be refreshing if the rest of the company functioned as efficiently.
(O.T. that spigot valve is looking rather nasty, it needs to be descaled and a new packing washer installed.) |

 | I hope for you there is another Line protector outside..., your first line which is on the left, is unfused. |

Actually, no. It's all good. I had to pull off the cover, but here is how it is wired.
The main cable (thick black) enters at the bottom. The yellow/black pair is the main line. The compression connectors lead out to the red/green pair, which goes to the right side of the junction box. That's where the protectors are. The Black/red-black pair from that side feed the POTS splitter.
The red/green pair coming out of the splitter feeds the modem. It would be unfiltered. There is a 3 socket splitter on that line. Two of the three sockets are filtered, one for an extension phone and one for the sat receiver. One is unfiltered, for the modem. The line is 5.6 km to the CO and is, according to the technician, exceptionally clean.
The top pair (black/ red-black) coming out of the splitter, feed the left side of the box, where all the extensions are wired in.
It looks like a mess, but if you trace all the wires, it's all good. And I think I can take the line filters off all the lines now, too. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |
