1 edit | [request] Request for Site Forum Change (Satellite Radio) As in everything in our modern lives, how we listen to non Video content has been transforming. A decade ago, Satellite Radio was the rage and many other services did not exist or they weren't of good quality or value.
Fast forward to today, 2013:
Our Satellite Radio forum has gone quite quiet and sadly, no forum exists for the services that people have moved on to.
I submit that the forum be changed into a "all Radio" forum, Terrestrial, Satellite, On Internet Streaming, portable devices streaming, etcetera.
For instance, even XM/Sirius now is offering online streaming service and since my XM Radio died, after canceling last fall, I just signed back up but for the streaming only, because Art Bell has come back, but only on XM/Sirius. The Streaming XM/Sirius service seems pretty good, so that got me thinking: On my smartphone I use about 19 different streaming audio services, there's all kinds of them, not just Pandora and iHeart, but also services such as Shazam, Tunein, 8Tracks, SoundHoundShufflerFM, and many others. People are buying DLNA capable home receivers to receive content, it isn't just portable devices, but home audio and stream boxes, too. And there are dedicated WiFi Streaming Internet Radios.
This is a big deal, it's huge, a paradigm shift that merits calling on our site managers to remain agile to change and change the forum title and mission, and let people discuss all the different services, even including FM/AM/Shortwave. A revamp of the forum with the first step being to take a poll of people favorite ways to get content, and links to related services and discussion of the devices used. It could make for a very lively forum IF it is done well.
On top of this, people are buying WiFi and DLNA radio devices in droves. If you are not familiar with them, here's some examples:
»www.ccrane.com/radios/wifi-radios/
I, my own self, hope to buy such a devices if I can afford it next year.
I submit that the forum be differentiated from other forums by a line of demarcation being AUDIO only content, versus VIDEO content.
Forums die if they aren't allowed to keep up with changes and trends. I think some people just don't know where to post such stuff.
The Ham Radio forum could be consolidated into this new forum, giving a good opportunity from more cross medium discussion, helping expose people to the variety of amazing media vectors out there. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. Rest in Peace, Leonard David Smith, my best friend, you are missed badly! Rest in peace, Pop, glad our last years were good. Please pray for Colin, he has ependymoma, a brain cancer, donate to a children's Hospital. |
