[DSL] question about compatible modem's

Hello all.

I have a friend who is on the run of the mill 3Mb Frontier DSL that is in need of a modem. She had a very old speed stream that gave up the ghost and frontier is mailing out a new westell modem.

In the mean time she needs to do online school so internet is important. The only spare modems i have laying around my house are a couple adtran modems from when i had a T1. A total access 600R & 616.

The book for the 600R say's there is a ADSL interface so i was wondering if that could be configured thru craft to work for her until her new modem arrives in the mail.

I don't think anyone can help you much.

I use one of these bridged conected to my ASUS RT-N66U with tomato firmware. The modem itself can act as a modem/router or dumb modem. If you just hook it up with standurd settings it should be relitivly plug and play. You'll mostly just need your account information when you load its auto configuration page. IE, your frontier username, email and passwords.

It's nice to at least have one backup. The other great advantage of having your own modem is that extra $6 a month charge they've been adding on to accounts. Unfortunately, if you use your own they won't be able to support you unless you know what your doing.

Thanks for the reply and info. I was actually able to configure the modem to work for her until the modem from frontier comes, I suggested owning her own modem and the possible support short comings and she wasn't interested.
