changed a fan but when in use, the copper smell g

hi

i changed a fan in my dell xps 9100 and the new fan has a strong copper smell when in use. does it fade away? or is it for ever

i had some tech guys place the new fan on the tower, but they had to rearrange the motherboard to make it fit. Fan is a evercool, low noise »www.frostytech.com/articleview.c···eID=2454

I can't say that I've ever smelled anything but warm electronics from a properly running PC. I'm also not sure I'd recognize a "copper smell" though. In general, there should not be any particularly strong odors coming from a PC. If so, I'd first look for wires resting on warm components (i.e. melting insulation); and then insufficient cooling (i.e. much hotter than normal components). Or some sort of muck that was put on a fan by mistake from someone who didn't clean up after themselves.

"Rearranged the motherboard"

That just evokes chuckles... and maybe a head shake and eye wince or two...

I really don't mean to accuse... I am truly curious... is this a troll?

I have never had a smell issue like you mention in many years of IT... other than a power supply eating the dust.

Are you sure you aren't smelling that "Made In China" smell that all plastic stuff from there has? Could just be the fan blades.

Not even close!

Pick up a faux leather steering wheel cover in Walmart and take a whiff. Those things have the strongest stench of what I'm talking about of any product from China that I know of. Blech! It's just an odor that seems to emanate from anything made over there from synthetic materials.

Is that the same smell as in a Harbor Freight store?

Quite similar! Though I find that the HF store also has a bit of "tire store" smell mixed in.
