 | [Speed] Extremely slow speeds, Windstream Central KY Hey guys, I recently moved outside of town and transferred my Windstream service to the new house. We were told the service ended after our house (?), none of the neighbors past had Windstream internet. The tech claimed he had to fix something in the box, and that we would have to degrade from 12mb service to 1.5mb. Our download speed was severely limited, around 30kbps. That's a long way from 1.5mbps. I am unable to stream videos even in lower definition, play online games, or do basically anything other than browse webpages.
I contacted Windstream to try to get at least what we were rated for, the first time I called they claimed our street was part of the expansion going on and that would be remedied soon. The next time I called they said there was no upgrade planned in the future, and basically told me to take my business elsewhere (which I can't except through satellite internet.)
One thing I considered is that my house is older, built in the 60's. Will the wiring have any effect on my speed? Also, I tried to get a tech out here to look at the situation on their end but Windstream claims the speed will be the best I can get. Is there anything I can do to increase my speed? At this rate we are considering just dropping internet altogether and using our cell phones (which get great service) for web browsing. Any ideas? |

| [Speed] Re: Extremely slow speeds, Windstream Central KY Yep, sounds about right as far as one of the support techs. May have been the same one I got. I called back and received a different one and needless to say I unloaded and then had to apologize for my anger. Anyway that tech took the bull by the horns and did get someone out to look at everything and found that the Engineers didn't have me provisioned correctly. After they did that the speeds did increase to 1.5-1.7 Mbps down. But that was before the last 3 months where my speeds have dropped farther and now have 12 modem reboots a day on its own. At least they are only charging you for 1.5.m paying for 3 Mbps and there are many who are paying for more and are getting less. Anyway, Call again and let them know you are very unhappy as you were told you would get the 1.5 Mbps. |

Welcome to the Windstream Dial-Up club where you pay for high speed DSL and get dialup speeds along with apologies and excuses on why they can't deliver what they advertise.
Also from central KY and 75 percent of the time our two business DSL lines are unusable. All WS can seem to do is apologize and tell us there's a problem in the area and they're working on it (yeah, over-subscribed DSLAM). Well, they've been working on it now since early 2012 and the service has only gotten worse. It's been quite strange (and frustrating) as one minute we're getting somewhat reasonable throughput and the next minute it's either a quarter meg or nothing at all. Latency also fluctuates from 41ms > 350ms.
When calling in this past week (to ask AGAIN when our DSL will perform properly), instead of being told about "the problem in our area that they're working on" we were told "if you want good reliable service where you are, you'll need to signup for our EIA (Ethernet Internet Access)" at a mere $360/mo. plus a $500 setup fee. At our location, this would give us 3 megs up & 3 megs down. Damn, what a deal. |
