Breville Smart Digital Toaster Oven.

Price will be around $250-$300 but occasionally they are on sale for $200-$225 range. There is a compact version which sells for less than $200.

Timbeaux265 See Profile asked for the "best toaster oven??" without specifying a budget, so I suggested the best residential toaster oven which is widely sold. Breville "smart mini" version is around $149.

^This^

I have not used my oven since getting one of these last Christmas. I cook for 2. I have baked and roasted everything in it, great for home made up to 13" pizza. Works better than a regular oven and uses less electricity. And it actually does toast bread like a toaster.

My oven is now used for storage.

A few years ago I looked far and wide for a toaster oven and strongly considered the Breville, but couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money to toast bagels and warm up pizza and frozen foods.

Then I came across this convection toaster oven from Hamilton Beach for $40. The fact that it came with a five year warranty cinched the deal for me.

Mine's been used at least 5 times a day every day for the past 2 years and it's still going strong and still under warranty.

Sure the Breville looks nice, but do you really need artificial intelligence to toast a bagel?

At triple the price it's a no-brainer

You sure that unit is not a digital model, I would think the power to the burners is either on or off, you know zeros and ones, just at a very slow data rate probably measured in bits per hour.

And it's only 1800 watts, now real men use real toaster ovens and have manly electric bills to match.

Now that a toaster oven that would fit in right nice next to my Vulcan range and Berkel slicer.

You know that "Hamilton Beach" is just a brand name ... same Chinese OEM toaster oven is sold under a dozen other brand names with slightly different appearence.

You already used it 5x365x2=3650 times which is beyond 3 times the standard deviation of this design. You probably set a global record for this brand. Contact the company ASAP and they will send someone to take your testimonial and publish it on their website.

No ... but look at the videos of the other stuff it can cook:

*** BTW I personally have a Black and Decker toaster oven with convection/rotisserie features. I wanted to buy the Breville for some time, but yes cost is a factor. Waiting for $199 sale.

Like I said earlier, the 5 yr warranty was the main selling point for me on the Hamilton Beach. I may have set some kind of record for usage, but I still have three more years to go under warranty so if it ever craps out chances are they will ship me a new one.

Crap & Decker on the other hand, I have also had experiences with. I'm not certain if their current warranty is 1 year or only 90 days, but it definitely shows in the quality of their products which barely last a week beyond the warranty expiration date.

My HB may be made in China but B&D tend to get their stuff from Mexico these days and it really shows in the lifespan of their products. Just look at them wrong and they fall apart.

Actually if you're looking for the ultimate in space saving, energy saving cooking appliances perhaps you should be looking at convection microwave ovens. You'd be able to replace two appliances with one.

Are you really that naive? Check the fine print of the warranty. Anyway, I was joking about your 5 times a day, every day of the year, usage claim. The heating elements are not rated for that much usage.

Curiously I bought that B&D toaster oven to cook frozen nuggets, etc. for my son when he started kindergarten and he just started grade 6. I will take a picture while it is doing a rotisserie chicken to prove that it is quite sturdy.

SmokChsr See Profile is also happy with his (much cheaper) B&D model. So that's two recommendations for B&D.

Finally, above screenshot shows the 4 most recommended toaster ovens at Canadian Tire and you will see B&D new model at #3. FYI your Hamilton Beach model is on page 2 without any reviews, despite the warranty "advantage" and lower cost.

Gentlemen,

Lets keep it to civil discourse.

My cheapo toaster oven (Oster Brand) just bought the farm, after ~1.5 years service. The analog, spring loaded "Twist to set the timer" knob broke internally, and just snaps back to "Always on" as soon as you let go of it.

So, needless to say I'm also in the market for a new Toaster oven, and was thinking about the Breville, but after reading in here, It seems theres other similar options at a much more reasonable price point.

So, lets keep this thread on track, I'm sure theres a few interested sets of eyes looking..

Thank you..

Sounds like a fire starter.

I have a B&D basic unit with a digital timer that I bought at a garage sale for $5 and it works for it's intended use, but who ever designed the drip tray needs his head examined, the tray is just a 1/2 inch below the lower burner, so what ever lands on the tray gets welded to the tray making for a real PITA clean up.

Where do you see a 5-year warranty? Amazon says two, and Walmart says you can buy a 2-year warranty.

Since using my Breville Convection Smart Oven, I have found that it is the only one that cooks just like a big oven in the same amount of time. I have used several cheaper brands of toaster ovens with disappointing results. I don't use it for frozen processed junk, I cook only from scratch healthy foods.

It may cost more, but what I save in tou electricity outweighs using my full size oven. It's a nice size for cooking for 2 people. I like that it uses quarts heating elements. If you make homemade pizzas you can get a 13" pizza stone for it. The smart part of the oven is it remembers you last temp and time settings for certain food you cook. The other settings like bake, roast, pizza, etc. determine the heating cycles from the quarts elements. Anything I have cooked has cooked perfect to the recipe cooking time required.

If you're happy with what you have that's great, but I too am happy with what I have and was only passing it along as a suggestion for the op.

Not sure about the USA, but in Canada Hamilton each warrants all of their appliances for 5 years.

This is the question to all:
Aside from size and price, is there any difference between the Breville 800XL, 650XL, and the 450XL (regular, compact, and mini) with respect to functionality or capability? (not related to size, of course)

All 3 are have 4 Quartz Elements ; max 1800W ; "Element IQ" and "Bit More" feature to add extra time.

The 800XL has convection, goes upto 500 F instead of 450F and adds "Warm" function in addition to Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, and Reheat.
