 | Is DSL that unpopular compared to Cable? I'm about to get set up with the 50/10 Pro FTTN package in the Hamilton area (presumably on Bell's network).
Every time I've called Start to talk about the connection, employees seem surprised that we're choosing DSL over cable (even though in our area it's much faster AND cheaper).
Is there something I'm missing? Is there something wrong with purchasing a DSL package? Or is it just that Cable is much more popular for no apparent reason?
Thank you, and looking forward to doing business with Start!! |

But yes, cable is certainly more popular due to it being much more ubiquitous than higher speed DSL services. |

 | Thanks, this makes me feel more comfortable about my choice.
Just waiting on the install now and we'll see how it goes.
Cheers. |

dsl is fine if you can get the speeds like you'll get. the issues with dsl is when it comes to home connections and the fact dsl has some short comings then cable the mean one being the distance issues and it being a toss up on what speeds you may end up with in the end. |

If you don't have the modem that I'm renting, DSL is fine. I have to constantly deal with sync-no-surf with this Sagemcom crap, though. |

you should request a modem exchange through Start then. the new SmartRG doesn't have those issues. |

However, one huge factor that isn't talked about much.. DSL install appointments are full day on a weekday, while Big Red Cable is 3 hour windows 7 days a week. -- electronicsguru.ca |

Start won't replace a rental. |

roccaStart.caPremium join:2008-11-16 London, ON kudos:17 | Sure we will. If someone has the Sagemcom and is having problems with it, just let our support team know and we'll get a SmartRG out to you. If you're not having problems then there isn't a push to swap them out at this time, but definitely let us know if you're having sync no surf and we can arrange a replacement. |

said by Teddy Boom:Big Red Cable is 3 hour windows 7 days a week. Cogeco's windows are weekday full days, so that is a moot point around here. The bigger issue is availability of FTTN. If I lived in St. Cats or a the few pockets in Niagara Falls with FTTN, I would have that rather than cable over Cogeco. Cogeco's TPIA rates are obscene and, of course, that gets passed on to the customers.
Thankfully they're rolling out FTTN to Fort Erie this summer. Fibre lines are already going up, new fibre junction boxes have popped up all over the place and they're prepping the OPIs. The moment my neck of the woods is lit up I'm switching. |

I guess I should have been more specific when I emailed.
I wouldn't be surprised if all of the issues I was having from day one were due to sync-no-surf. I wouldn't be surprised if the cost and time of rewiring my phone line was due to sync-no-surf.
Bell's a shit. |
